I think if GM and Ford ever nixed the Camaro and Mustang to create one shared sports car, you'd see the respective fans of each car burning down the car's production plant :)
I'm of the opposite opinion. If it gets BMW engine and other mechanical parts then I'd rather they just name it...
+1 Any company that has participated in F1 racing has been at the pinnacle of motorsports.
We've been hearing for years about how Toyoda and Tada want to bring sporty back to Toyota. The FR-S was a great big first step and even more so now that it's badged as a Toyota 86. Maybe after the Supra...
New engine would give the Supra revival even more buzz and attention than it will already get! I've always thought that a halo sports car should have a halo engine that's exclusive for it, or at least was introduced with it (and then filters to other models).
Hasn't been a dribble of news coming from Toyota on the car. Hope Tokyo auto show changes that in a couple of months. But even if they released another concept then, how early could we possibly see a new Supra be produced?
Best case scenario of seeing it start production in 2016 (as a 2017...
If the new Supra comes as a hybrid I really don't think it'll develop anywhere close to the following that the last gen had. The Supra name moved to a whole new level of legend because of how tuner friendly it was and how much the car was modified and embraced by 'junkies'
But the M4 GTS concept they also revealed at Pebble Beach is the more hardcore M4 variation. This can't be another M4. BMW does all kinds of styling exercise concepts that never get built.
If rumors of the Supra being 2018 earliest it is no surprise BMW wont be showing it so early. I'm sure the two companies have roughly coordinated schedules for when to show their respective cars considering development is still ongoing.
I'm thinking there may be details about the platform that...
I'd like to think it will be given above 155 electronically limited. I don't believe the C7 is limited.. what is it at, 190? There are much cheaper cars (i.e. Mustang) that are limited at 155. We need MOAR.
And at this point it doesn't look like it will. It's like the entire project was just one big experiment. Luckily the Supra nameplate is strong enough already that they (hopefully) wouldnt abandon it within a few years.
I hope it doesn't come to that. I hate to say it but given a choice I think they should sscrap the FRS in favor of the Supra. If they can only afford to have one sports car in a bad economy it has to be a true flagship one like Nissan with the GT-R. No one will ever take them seriously in this...
I look forward to receiving new issues on my ipad. The interactive magazines are so much better quality pix than a print magazines. And you can play videos etc.
Not that I've seen but early rumors were that it might get a 10 speed auto. Way too many speeds! Toyota/Lexus needs to get with the times and come out with a proper dual clutch already.
There is no good business case for any powerful car in Europe. They are for the affluent. That's not a good reason to give it a cheap underpowered engine just to sell it there. The big picture is it would hurt ALL sales , like it or not it would lose some serious street cred if it came with a 4...
But certain plants and factories are definitely known to be better quality than others within the same company. I agree with the owners that would prefer their Japanese and German cars to be built in the home country though. Just seems more genuine, even tho I know the quality at plants...
