I didn't realize how close the rendering based on the prototype is compared to the FT-1 concept until seeing your post. They definitely maintained the overall feel and look of the rear 3/4 view!
Most likely. It'll be more expensive to build, but will also have that extra power from the electric motors. We're going to see hybrid sports cars become mainstream I bet. BMW M is already conceding that future M models will likely be hybrid.
There are rumors that this car will only be for Japan. That'd be too bad, I'd love to see the SFR move slightly upmarket and more power and this fun little car slot under it.
I wonder if the BMW and Toyota model will end up competing in the same exact segment and for the same buyers. Would be interesting to see that happen and then magazine shootouts pitting the fraternal twins against each other :catfight:
The original press release announcing the joint sports car platform partnership mentioned collaboration on fuel cells, vehicle electrification and lightweight materials though. Sounds like the two cars might share more than just a platform and propulsion might be one of them? Hope not.
As elitest as that sounds I totally agree. GT-R has one and one single powerful engine only. That's how you maintain halo status.
If I'm paying this money for a car I want it to be exclusive.
A $60k pricetag isn't automatically a bad thing. If Toyota decided to price a car at that high of a price, you can get you'll be getting a lot for your money in terms of the overall package.
Almost every rumor about this car says that it will have carbon fiber as part of its platform / chassis and that's because of its partnership with BMW. BMW has been marketing its carbon fiber investments like crazy in last few years and they've actually been able to produce cars with full CFRP...
Might be true but the BMW concept will be a accurate preview of what the production version will look like. Toyota doesnt have as good of a track record with concepts. The eventual FR-S design looked a lot different than 2 of the 3 concepts Toyota showed before making the car.
