Ah or would just love to see another mid-engine sports car in something more attainable.
55K would be the sweet spot IMO unless it is going to really outclass the M3/M4 and other competition in performance and tech.
That'd be badass but the Supra is going to be the flagship I'm pretty sure it has been said. If a 3 sports car line up it makes more sense to go after the likes of the M4 than go to GTR territory in price. That would leave a huge hole in their line up above the 86.
I'm wondering if they will give the 86 a bump in power to position it a little closer to the Supra once the sub86 hits the market. It would make sense to close the gap instead of a hot or hipo version like i know they've been screaming for on ft86 for a long time now. There's only so many ways...
Declining sales is one thing but the reason I asked is more how Toyota has kind of let the 86 go stale with no indication that they are going to be updating it with new models, new engines, redesign etc. I would hope they don't approach the Supra MKV the same way although I understand they are...
Yea if not for Akio Toyoda being such a big proponent of the car and a big enthusiast himself who knows if we'd be talking about the FT-1 or next Supra right now.
What I'm really asking is, will slumping 86 sales or even if Toyota killed off the 86 altogether, hurt or help the Supra?
Help it since there will only be one sports car in the lineup? Hurt it because people will question Toyota's ability to offer a viable sports car that can compete in this...
I'm hoping some of the feedback they got on the concept told them that it is too big. I know (or I think) they made comments that it was made bigger on purpose for the auto shows? Anyway I think most of us want something that is at most only slightly bigger than the 86.
We're not going to head into another recession anytime soon. Real estate is steady and the markets are doing fine. All the while it seems sales of luxury houses/cars are stronger than ever. I think it's just the income disparity in the country keeps getting deeper.
Not only that but break 100K and it shouldn't be called a Supra. It's not meant to be a super car. I knew guys in my average middle class neighborhood that drove it growing up, unlike the NSX. It should be accessible.
Agreed. Besides the people who are following every bit of news religiously (like on this forum), most of the stuff I read online are people doubting the FT-1 is the next Supra or doubting that Toyota will be making a flagship sports car. If they put out an official statement or a "Supra concept"...
Lesson learned by everyone at Toyota: give Akio Toyoda a ringer of a video game race car so he'll approve it :)
Now they need to actually make the badass Vision Gran Turismo FT-1 into a real life concept car.
That's like saying the FT-1 Vision GT concept is the basis for the next Supra. Look at this thing, the only place it can exist in a video game and concept form.
How about a 2+2 with rear seat delete option for true track enthusiasts? probably not even worth it given how few people actually track their cars but i can't think of any other reason someone would not want an extra 2 seats.
They've had almost 15 yrs and billions of dollars to deliver on what the Supra name promises. This isn't the 80's and 90's, there is a big gaping hole among the japanese mfgrs for an exciting sports car in this price range. If they do it right they will kill it IMO.
So this means that repairs will have to be done by dealers? I don't know how much I'd trust a body shop doing this. I mean which independant body shop in this world has experience fixing carbon fiber bodies. Can't be many.
Didn't even know the GT-R started out in the $60s.
Hope economies holds up in next couple of years so we don't get a inflated price cuz of a strong yen.
Don't like the styling.... that hood is way too long and the cabin is way too back.
For this price I'd rather have something that's rear or mid engined.
I think this partnership will be good for Toyota. They are in need for a lighter platform to underpin not just the Supra but the next generation FRS. I'm sure the platform will need to be able to be scaled down, the BMW could build the Z4 and Z2 off of it possibly?
