The FT1 design was also intentionally scaled up to be something like 20% bigger to have make more of an impressions at auto shows and appearances. Having more room to work with no doubt allowed the designers to give the concept a sportier greenhouse-to-length ratio. When it comes to actual...
I don't think we're going to get a front end that is that curvaceous and rounded. Judging by the spy photos i think it will have a more traditional look much like this one. Still a great effort man. I do hope the FT-1 influence is stronger than in the below rendering and NOTHING like the...
Interesting but isn't really accurate to the prototype's shape spied so far. I hope there's that much styling and curves/lines under the camoflage though.
Well the FT-1 was supposed to preview the future of Toyota design, not just Supra. But yea I'd hope the Supra being the halo sports car will embody that design more than any other Toyotas. So far from the spy photos it doesn't appear to do so.
That's true but companies are starting to realize that you can't just keep getting heavier and bigger especially for sportier cars. You're starting to see cars drop weight and not grow as fast as before. Plus we're talking about the company that showed restraint with the FRS/BRZ's size and...
Good riddance. Enthusiasts have been calling for sports cars under the Toyota brand ever since the Supra and Celica were discontinued. We'll finally see it happen. Personally I woulda preferred my car be badged a Toyota and not Scion but I bought it anyway since it was so good technically.
2 years later and the FT-1 still looks as good as the first time I saw it online. If you stuck an FR-S in the middle of those two cars that would be one mighty fine sports car lineup and definitely the best sports car lineup currently available outside of Porsche.
The new BMW 7 Series was able to drop up to 286lbs over the predecessor using its new carbon core architecture. Obviously that's a bigger heavier car so it can drop more weight easily, but if they apply a similar carbon core chassis to the MKV Supra, we should see it come in at a nice weight...
Could this be for a Supra concept maybe? I agree that it would be a really strange (and bad) decision to badge this as a S-FR if this trademark actually does relate to the flagship sports car.
Interesting. Sounds like what Nissan considered with the IDx concept. Let's hope it actually sees the light of day. So many manufacturers don't seem to have the stones to create entry level RWD sports cars anymore sadly...
Good post
I agree with most of what you said. I believe the FT-1 front end will change the most from the concept and that photoshop is actually one of the best ideas to date.
That's the theory for these halo cars. They're supposed to get people who can't afford them to think about the brand's other models. Or get them into the showroom to check it out at least and possibly get interested in actually buying another model. And did you just compare my car to a 27"...
Not necessarily more weight if the car is designed from the ground up to be a convertible also. Then it won't have to have added stiffening components later for a convertible/targa. Targa could possibly be even lighter with its roof removed than the coupe in that case.
Saw this jalopnik article and made me think of this thread :)
The FT1 looks most like the Sauber or the Proboscis Monkey. I still love it tho :respect:
The Five Axis made FR-S concept was still the best looking one, even better than the actual production model and I say that as an owner. Their kit and wheels for the FR-S are just about my favorite ones too (but pricy).
Hope Toyota keeps them involved when making the updated concepts and for...
Seems to be some of the stuff that was posted in the quotes thread too. It's been a while since we've heard Tada San talk about the FT-1 / Supra project. Wish they'd drop some more hints for us to chew over...
