This BMW model codes document lists both the Supra (J29) and Z4 (G29).

The Toyota Supra is listed with only auto transmission (see previous spy pics), and will come with 4 cylinders and 6 cylinder.

Europe gets two 4 cylinder models (represented by "20i" and "30i") and a 6 cylinder model (40i).
U.S. gets one 4 cylinder model (248hp?) and a 6 cylinder model (335hp?).

Admin Note: The document is a few months old and is of course subject to change (or addition).

 meh, if true still gonna ask why they went through the trouble to create such a partnership unless they are trying to create a sports car with the greatest profit margins of all time.

..considering the 86/BRZ project resulted in a rehashed chassis & brand new engine & the Miata/Fiata project allowed separate powertrains for each car I still had some hopes for something new or different..would be sad if everything is shared for a presumably more important & expensive partnership :/

i think this partnership with BMW was just more of Toyota piggybacking on the Z4's development. basically Toyota just paid BMW for a reskin hardtop Z4.

I'm still under the belief Toyota will offer a manual.
Its unlike them only offer Auto's ...
Particularly with a car like this.

a bmw with a toyota body kit..at this point should we all protest in hopes that they don't use the supra name?

but it ain't them, it is BMW :dunno: despite the rumors in japan, the only confirmed testing (besides the recent sighting in the us) has all been in germany presumably only by bmw's hands. not like it is out of the question considering the IS/RC/GS F have never been offered with a MT.

I wonder how Toyota will convince people to buy a $50k+ 248hp 'Supra' over a $55k 460hp C7.
if this turns out to be true then I think BMW will be 100% fine with allowing the toyota variant to undercut the z4 by quite a bit...this will only be milking the jdm fans, we can now confirm there ain't gonna be any conflict of interest...bimmer fans who want their newest and best powertrains will still go to a bmw badge.

...though the "SPX" detail sort of intrigues me

I'm totally out if it's an auto.

Come on man, you have to stop calling it a body kit. It's so dumb. You have to understand that. :p

248hp with a manual transmission, I'd have no problem buying that over a C7. With an auto it's absolutely pointless unless it's making 600hp and competing with the GTR, and it's still not for me. Of course it is ridiculous for a $50k Supra to have the power that the 86 SHOULD have come with, but I'd still buy it if it were fun to drive, which it won't be with an auto.

This will make my choice to get a new Tacoma much easier. Plus 2018 is bring Calvary Blue to the TRD Pro! Works for me.

ya it is so dumb to exaggerate what toyota has provided to the project  but go ahead and take everything literally.

lol. I still call BS. I don't think Toyota would release a supra that is slower than a Camry and price it higher. IMO I don't think the slowest version of this car would be slower than a Camry. Also you telling me that the last generation supra is going to be more powerful...even the 86 would be faster than the 4 banger that's another reason I call BS. If I don't hear it from Toyota then it's bullshit.

I'm wondering why Europe gets more offerings than the US? Also so much for Tada sans comments about "big power" and "fun to drive". It looks like the only promise kept was the no hybrid part.

eh, slower than a Camry? The current base model Z4 does 0-60 in 5.6 secs and I'm expecting the Toyota variant to be lighter perhaps around 3200 pounds.. And going by the manufacturer's figures, the top of the line TT I6 on the current Z4 35is has slightly higher HP/torque figures than the 2JZ-GTE so it is technically an improvement :dunno:
