I’ve been close to buying an RCF or M2 to replace my daily driver. I want them for different reasons; the RCF due to the na V8, Lexus luxury, and Lexus reliability; the M2 due to the nimbleness, lighter weight, smaller size, and manual tranny. In a perfect world, I would buy a Supra (all the renderings look amazing btw) that is light and nimble like the M2, with Toyota reliability, and a manual tranny. Oh, and I prefer a back seat, even a tiny one.

Too bad the perfect car doesn’t exist.
I know what you mean..test drive an RCF...I found it be beautiful and luxurious but heavy and not very dymamic...would be curious to hear your thoughts....

I’ve test driven the RCF twice, it hides its weight rather well but it’s still heavy. I like driving smaller cars and I just can’t get over how the RCF is longer than my old IS350 sedan and weighs 4-500 lbs more. But I agree with you, the RCF is beautiful, luxurious, and nearly perfect except it’s a little bigger than I would prefer.

I’ve also test driven the M2, an M235, an M240, and have driven a handful of BMWs with the older N54/N55 I6 turbo engines... I liked the M2 though I still can’t get used to how turbo cars drive, I prefer an na. Also, the manual felt weird, but every manual feels weird to me until I get used to it. I love how small and light the M2 felt and I love the bulldog look, but the interior left a lot to be desired for a $50k plus car.

I like how the Toyota 86 drives but it needs more power, and could use more luxury/refinement and I’d be ok paying a higher price tag. The Supra seems like the best logical compromise of what I want. But I have still have to wait to see the specifics once they are out.

If the Supra doesn’t tick all the boxes for me, I’ll likely pick up a used RCF at a good price (I’m surprised at the depreciation so far) and use it as my daily, and keep my S2000 for when I want to drive a manual and have more fun.

I actually prefer the m240i over the M2 , i like its engine more , it seems smoother and more low profile but just as fast. In general the 2 series is designed very good for someone that likes a fun and good car , even the 230i is good for its performance class , i would say better than the 86 and the ecoboost mustang. Also you can check out the audi rs3 and the TT rs , both are all wheel drive and have a 5 cylinder engine that is a beast with 400hp.

I've been watching the drive tribe and other channels on youtube regarding the 718 S vs M2 vs TTRS just to see a Supra @340 hp and 2900 lbs might compare lol.

I guess the spx will perform well but the problem for me is that some things were sacrificed , i don't like that it is a 2 seater and that it won't come with a manual , i needed this car to have at least the backseats so it is a bit more practical , if it is indeed a 2 seater i probably will look more into the m240i or a q60 . The M2 and the TT rs both come with backseats and for the transmission both come with a manual ( the 2018 TT doesn't have one but you can get a 2016 model with a manual ) . The cayman is indeed a good car for benchmarking the new toyota car but i just straight up don't like the cayman or the boxster .

I had the luxury of driving a friends manual Cayman S for a few weeks as we would trade cars all the time, and I was considering buying a used one.

I loved the way it drove, everything was so precise, but I felt I needed more space inside. It was almost claustrophobic, I had the z4 coupe for a while too and even that felt bigger. The Cayman having the engine right behind you just makes it feel way to small for DD.

lol not very fair to compare a car that is nearly 50% more expensive. plus, dynamically speaking compared to the 86 you're just gaining power..matt farah on numerous occasions has stated that he feels the 86 is the best chassis and has the best steering for under $70 K which is a big nod considering the breadth of cars he experiences..

..think the supra is going to be a tight fit too. all rumors have pointed to a wheelbase identical to the cayman and the supposed curb weight being closer to the GT86 is potentially proof.

Actually the 230i is about the same price as the 86( maybe a little bit cheaper but can't remember ) in most european countries so they are direct competitors , and yeah the chassis of the 86 is truly amazing as i have said too in another thread and i completetely agree with this statement that is one of the best chassis if not the best under 60k , but it should be offered as a turbo too , it should have 2 trims maybe one NA and one turbo with maybe 4-6k difference .

i get that, but for most of the world the 86 is much cheaper compared to the 2 series. Think Germany has the cheapest 2 series and it starts at 29 K EURO just like the GT86 in their country (admittedly if I lived in Germany would probably get the 2 series over the 86), but in Japan the base 2 series is literally double the price of a base GT86.
