To introduce some reality into this discussion: the mark iv supra had a curb weight of:

1,460 kg (3,219 lb) (non-turbo)
1,550 kg (3,417 lb) (turbo)

15 years later of a ton of new safety requirements for sports cars with bigger engines, bigger brakes, bigger tires and way more technology and nanny systems. do we really expect it to weigh less than this??
MKIV heavier than I would have guessed! If the MKV Supra ends up lighter that'll be an accomplishment and a weight I'd be happy with. 3000lbs is too ambitious i think..

The MKIV Supra weighted about the same as the competition: Nissan 300ZX (3,186-3,602lbs), Mitsubishi 3000GT (3,090–3,770 lbs). The only two cars that were lighter was the Acura NSX (3,010-3,153lbs) and FD RX-7 (2,315–2,954 lbs).

It's funny looking at the weight ranges you put down. Makes you realize how much more equipment has become standard now. You really never see 6-700 pounds difference between base and fully optioned now, it's all just baked in. Defiitely one of the things i miss about those days.

That said it's going to be tough keeping it as light as we all wish for, not with all the hi-techy goodness and quality of interior expected at the 60-70 $ range.

Could be wrong, but I think the low starting weight of the FD RX-7 was maybe: JDM models, stripped down models, or special editions??? I think for the US it was around 2,789 lbs for the base model. 2,800 lbs for the R1, and 2,862 lbs for the touring.

Options can still add a lot to a car... especially with seat options, nav, dvd, auto transmission, sunroof, convertible, etc. Even stuff like full leather interior can add pounds of weight.

Those numbers look off too, likely dry weights in other markets, as well as being for different cars, etc. 300ZX had two motor options, targa tops, and a 2+2 long wheelbase. 3000GT had multiple engines as well as a convertible hard top option which was one of the first of its kind that added hundreds of pounds.

Yea I think those don't account for dry weights and different engines and convertible vs. hard top etc. What that does show you is how light a car back then was without all that extra junk which we were lucky enough to pick and choose whether to add to our orders. Now you get a few packages and take the good with the bad (and the extra weight).

Looks like GT6 won't be the only racing simulator featuring the FT-1. Excape Entertainment has just announced that the FT-1 concept will be appearing in the racing sim rFactor, to debut at the Singapore Motor Show this month.

Here is a new project: creation of the amazing Toyota FT1 concept supercar for in-game use in rFactor. Of course, our strategic partner, Mak Corp., is developing this vehicle for us. Get to the Singapore Motor Show in January and visit the Toyota / Inchcape / Borneo Motors event space if you’d like to be the first to try this massive high performance car in a real simulator with real physics!

Has anyone ever tried this game? Wish they did a better job with the interior :)

Never heard of this game but look at that lovely cokebottle shape  I don't think I've ever loved another concept design more.

Do you guys not realize the new C7 actually gained weight from the previous year? It shed weight in some areas but it was offset by all the added equipment and beefier parts.

The C7 is also a 2 seater and uses a good deal of carbon fiber already. It would be a miracle if the FT-1 with a 2+2 setup would come under the corvette in weight.
Its all aluminum body is probably what keeps its weight down. There's no CF in the chassis or shell. Only the hood and some exterior body kit parts are CF. If the Supra can get CF in the chassis and body shell and on exterior parts, it could beat the C7 in weight.

C7 is an impressive piece of machinery though especially the Z06. It just appeared on Jay Leno.

The C7 is actually similar size as the MKIV Supra.

C7:
Wheelbase
106.7 in (2,710 mm)
Length 176.9 in (4,493 mm)
Width 73.9 in (1,877 mm)
Height 48.6 in (1,234 mm)
Curb weight 1,496 kg (3,298 lb)

Now if they can shrink it down to be smaller I think it could be as light as the C7, but lighter would surprise me. Two extra seats would add at least 100 LBS.

I'm all for a smaller and lighter car but to me the FT-1 concept shows Toyota is not really out to make this a small sports car.

Well they got the FR-S for a small sports car already. The MKV Supra will definitely be bigger than the FR-S.
