Wow.. all the Toyota boys are here swinging and backing up a BMW product.. good job. 2JZ levels of power.. itā€™s good to dream.. but DI will hold you back. Why havenā€™t any B58 equipped cars made that power today? Lol

Guff, as for NSXs, values etc.. new NSXs donā€™t sell. They actually even discount them 20-30k to move them at the moment if at all possible. That car without the electric garbage and a 120k price point wouldā€™ve been perfect. New one vs old was a rather large price difference. 100k plus USD in difference.

MKIV supra values have risen to the levels further than what the new MKV will be sold new (assuming they are in the 55-65k Range). So itā€™s rather different when we speak of folks cross shopping a new NSX vs old one and in the case of Supras. Would I buy a new car made mainly by BMW or buy the old one thatā€™s actually appreciating in value at the SAME price point.

Not a Toyota fanboi, just believe that a giant car company knows more than a bunch of internet nobodies. Myself included. They know what the A80 means to people.

and I know, first hand experience, that 9/10, the Germans do things right. Give them a design scope, it will be met. The A90 engine will have strict criteria and specifications from Toyota that BMW must have agreed to prior to signing on the line. This will include reliability, which we know is one of Toyota's standpoints.

I'm not thinking of it from a car perspective, but a manufacturing/engineering perspective. As a business. I would be surprised if Toyota did underestimate the amount riding on the return of the Supra name.... and if I am wrong, well, that's ok too. I'll just keep my C63.

How long has the B58 been out? 2-3 years? How much power was the 2JZ making in 1995? 400rwkW was a crazy amount back then. It wasn't for a long time that we started seeing the power we come to expect from a JZ.

As for DI being an issue... seen what some of the AMG engines are doing in Europe? They haven't even been out *that* long either.

Tuner market in the mid 90s in the US vs. today is a very different scene. Any company that did anything for N55 pretty much started making products for B58 rather quickly. Wasnā€™t MY15 the first one for 340i? 3.5yrs is a long time in the tuner scene today.

haha funny you say that. I'm looking for a Mkiv. If this car truly flops this will be a 70K car for sure and higher...If you see one clean title, original 6 speed for sale anytime soon please let me know by PM. (Under 55K) SRS!
I am brokering a 94' 6spd, TT, Targa, Baltic Blue, 40k mile MINT Stock example of a car, only issue is you need $65k...

Now now, you better watch out or you might start implying that Toyota, the largest car manufacturer on the planet, actually did some level of investigative research before moving into a large-scale partnership with another large automobile manufacturer, despite obvious implicit hurdles that would cost them considerable time and money.

Nahhhhh, Toyota is lameeee, the GT86 suxxx. Just a Corolla made by Subaru. MKV Supra should have been a Hellcat competitor because I love disregarding Katayama-San's vision and direction because I saw a video of a Supra with 14,000hp and it made pop-pop noises out it's peculiarly angled exhaust pipe.
Greatest. Clapback. Ever.

The Russians(who'd have thought) just finally cracked the DME for the B-series motors barely a month ago, which is why there haven't been any making big numbers yet. The N54 engine easily supports 600+hp, so I have no doubt the B58 which is 2 generations newer than the n54 will have any trouble making good numbers. All of you hating on BMW and their engines/design work will be pleasantly surprised by the engines capabilities. If it really has an iron or CGI block then it definitely will have no problem pushing BIG numbers.

Also note that BMW always understates their forced induction engine's HP. Usually the figure they give is closer to WHP than Crank horsepower, which most manufacturers put on display.

the brakes are painted red on some of the cars and have been for some time; IIRC all the cars at Jarama had them.

Just resurrecting this thread. In case anybody needs sport pads for the new Supra, there isn't much on the market.
Fritech, the sport pads branch of Metelli (a big OEM/2nd market manufacturer of pads, pumps etc here in italy) makes some in two compounds:
RS60 - fast road / trackday
RS80 - full race
Prices are very competitive.

The calipers are used on other BMW cars that have been out for some time now, there are definitely options out there already besides this company
