Seriously? That's shorter than the FR-S which has a wheelbase of 101.2" and height of 50.6"
With the Supra positioned above the FR-S in the lineup I doubt it'll have a shorter wheelbase or be a smaller car. It'll likely have a longer wheelbase.

i think it could end up being just a few inches longer than the 86. i like the size and proportion of that car. all you would need to do is add a few extra inches for a larger motor.

Makes sense for a car that will be faster and usually driven faster. The longer wheelbase will make for a more stable drive at high speeds. May not be quite as nimble feeling at lower speeds though compared to FR-S which will be lighter and have that shorter wheelbase.

True, but a good aero design could fix any stability issues.

The old 60's Ford GT had 95" wheel base, and that was a 200mph car with "now" outdated technology. Porsche's have 96" wheelbase, and they are getting close to 200 mph, and I haven't heard anyone complain about the stability. But you are right, longer wheelbase makes for easier task to designing for stability.

Granted many of the exotics catering to the rich and overweights have 105"+/- wheelbas!

Not to mention a longer wheelbase car is usually more comfortable in terms of ride quality. Not as jumpy. Must be a tough task for engineers to design a sports car that's everything -- stable, nimble, good ride quality.

It's too bad something like the active rear wheel steering system from the 911 GT3 must be prohibitively expensive for a car like the Supra. Something like that could help overcome the some of the loss in nimbleness and handling that comes from a longer wheelbase car.

Didn't one of the Honda Preludes and Mitsubishi VR4 or whatever it was called had four wheel steering. They were not super expensive systems but complicated maybe...?

Rear wheel steering has been on cars for ages.
Wonder why it hasn't been put on more cars then? Price, weight, complexity?

Seems like nothing but a benefit especially for performance cars.

My speculation it is a high maintenance item and not cost effective to mfrs when under warranty. Also I don't think cost to benefit pays off for them if the General public doesn't care much, and doesnt necessarily reel in the buyers.

I have not driven one, but from the safety point of view, mfrs like to design/set up cars with heavy understeer. I don't think four wheel steering provides the understeer they maybe looking for...??? That's also why most modern cars have longer wheel base, which is sad....

Lexus GS350 adopted rear steer, and got praised for driving smaller than it's actually is. If a mid-size sedan can have a rear steer, I don't see why a flagship coupe can't.

it would be nice it if it was around the size of the 86; a few inches longer is fine. i really like how sleek and compact the 86 looks. i hope it isnt big and chunky like the RC-F.

Had no idea the GS had rear steer. Props to Toyota.
It's funny what companies choose to focus on marketing more than others. The 911 GT3 marketing talks about its rear end steering so much and yet the GS has it but I never knew.

If it was 86 size that would rock my world. I love how small and nimble the FR-S and BRZ are. Much larger and it starts to deal with different physics (no way to overcome size).

Definitely hope new Supra isn't RC-F size. That's grand tourer size. This car needs to look and act like a scapel. Is the new joint BMW-Toyota platform supposed to be scalable (for different sized cars from very small to large)?

I sure hope it's modular and scalable. We could finally have a scalable sports car platform that could be used for a future 86? The carbon fiber rumors would put that to rest tho.

Either way it could open up doors and I'm sure BMW and Toyota dont want to be locked down to each car's respective sizes.
