Do you think the result would have been the same if Audi or Porsche were still participating in LMP1?

I don't keep up on LMP1 all year, so Im not sure if Toyota was racing a completely upgraded car or the same, but I fully expected Toyota to win given they are the only manufacterer backed team left....if they didn't win.....wow!

Then again, if it was a fully new car with upgraded power, handling, body work etc. then i would have loved to see it up againts Audi / Porsche.....I love Toyota, dont get me wrong, and I am stoked they finally got their victory.....just seems a bit less of a win given the two most successful teams left to focus on Formula E
Toyota has been faster than Audi and Porsche for more than a few seasons. They hold the current lap record there in fact. More often than not they've lost to plain old piss poor luck. They've even lost to faulty ACO equipment already. Beating the Circuite de La Sarthe for 24hrs is just as gratifying as beating other manufacturers, I refuse to hold anything against them. Not their fault that the competition decided not to turn up to the fight. Both Audi and Porsche have raced themselves and added to their titles, Toyota doesn't deserve ppl looking down their nose at them for the same. Le Mans is a harsh mistress, 20yrs from now, the record book will show that Toyota won. That's pretty much all that matters. In fact, it might even show that they'll be the first Japanese manufacturer to win multiple LeMans titles. Let's see what 2019 brings.

I tend to agree here.. a win because the other big dawgs weren’t around doesn’t seem so gratifying.
No one bats an eye when Audi (And Bentley in 2003 because Audi pulled out, but they are the same parent company anyway) were the only dominating force for 7 years (2000-2006) with no competitors. But everybody loses their minds when Toyota is now the only dominating team this year.

Of course I did not forget..... As mentioned, Toyota's win in Le Mans benefits their success in automotive racing, which they can be used to promote the Supra soon after. And we should not downplay their success just because they are the only Works team in the LMP1 category.

And if you only want to quote me, why not quote the rest who are talking about Le Mans as well?

It is true, I wanted to mention that most of VAG success was also when there were no official competitor rivals.

Now come next year if Toyota has a good showing / dare I say even win the GT level Le Mans race with the new Supra against the Porsche 911RSR, Audi R8, BMW M8, Ford GT etc etc........then holy lord that is reason to get excited! I think the lower devision of Le Mans is now the only interesting / competitive race (in my opinion).
If that ends up being the case, Supra vs #68 Ford GT for podium!

And then they leave the moment Porsche kicks their butts one time. GT is where the fun will be for the next few years. I'm excited for the 911 RSRs but i would love to see the new Aston, M8 and Supra take the fight to them.

M8 didn't seem like much to the 911

Porsche 911 RSR is cheating; it is not rear engine but mid-rear engine.

Says who?
Just everything I read, I do hope it is false. Owning 2 Supras, it is more of having high hopes for the best, but no big thing if the rumors are true.

I will just pass on it, if so.

No one is a bigger skeptic than me on this forum, but even I know that rumors on SupraMKV.com should be taken with a grain of salt. Unfortunately, all we have up to this point is a bunch of mule photos/videos "spotted in xyz". No one (not even folks from Toyota who are on this forum) can tell us any concrete information on what; engine, transmission, differential, etc... the MKV Supra will have. You may very well be right about the 335HP figures, but to be quite frank....that might be the low tier trim (the turbo 4cyl?). In today's era of sports cars, NA six cylinder cars are making 350HP, so I would assume that a turbocharged six on a halo car would be well above those figures.

Personally, im amazed these two manufacturers (Toyota and BMW) have managed to keep things hush hush for this long. I mean, let us at least wet our beaks a bit by showing what the damn logo will be for the Supra.
