Honestly the power amount isn’t that big of deal to me. As long as the engine can take mods well that’s a bigger factor to me than stock hp.

I think for a lot of people it depends on the price.
For me, my upper limit is a bit higher since my fiance and I are going halfers.

That being said, if this car in its top form is around 60-70k Canadian like I think it will cost -and be smoked in a straight line and on track by the, now good, 460hp mustang GT that can be had for mid 30s, I may reconsider.

It's all about perceived value and I can't quite say what I'm willing to spend or how much power I expect I'd like until I see the car in person.

Bold to want to void your warranty right away!

If the rumours are true, the new model will be a two seater, shorter, lighter, and have a smaller engine...
There's no option for <300. I don't care about horses that much, power-to-weight is much more important and a proper suspension and handling. A fat boat with lots of hp is still a fat boat.

Isn't power to weight more important? Is to me at least. Don't need a ton HP stock if it's light on it's feet.

to some degree..both the HP itself and power to weight aren't the whole story. look at the 86, on paper it seems like an acceptable power to weight ratio but due to the way the power comes on, best seen with area under the curve on a dyno chart, for a lot of people it doesn't necessarily translate when they revv it out.

torque is really where its at when it comes to feeling a shove of power..

When It comes to HP in cars like this, I'm personally not overly fussed.
I would imagine at this price point that has been guesstimated, 330-380HP is more than acceptable.
Particularly if the car is said to be quite light, at roughly 1300 - ish kgs (2800lbs).

The only reason I say this is from experience owning a Silvia.
Even having 300-330HP is fast when your driving a car that weighs 1200kgs (2600lbs).

Another point is... this car will no doubt be tunable. So i'm sure a flash tune or a boost up in a modern car, will not be an issue if the owner wants to bump the ponies up higher

That's my thought process, if it's like the Cayman and has a manual, then I'm in.

The 2020 MK8 VW Golf R has been said by the chief engineer to come with 400hp for the next generation 2.0lt turbo using 48 volt electrically spooled turbo tech.

A 350-380hp 3.0lt 2019 Supra for likely a much higher price will seem old tech in comparison upon arrival if the B58 is the go to engine.

It feels like we as a forum aren't all on the same page. Wasn't there a thread earlier suggesting that the new block would be an iron one derived from some diesel block? And even further back we had multiple hints of a sort of "new generation" 2JZ as well as what seemed like multiple confirmations of a new engine; why are we all hung up on the B58 again? Did I miss a comment somewhere? o_O
