Thats definitely the question.

I thought that by having the new iron block I6 that it would be present in all 6cyl versions, but that may not be the case.

When I asked about the motor from Goodwood, they wouldn't say anything besides wait a little longer.

Appreciate your efforts!

I am very much hoping for all the I6s to be the iron block, or at least the same base engine. Otherwise we'll end up with a Supra with a "good six and a shit six"

Even if that shit six is spectacular, no-one will care, as will be overshadowed....

Fingers crossed!

I'm really hoping when they say "a little longer" they mean the press event taking place in September!

Also is it unheard of for a production prototype chassis to be tested with a different motor temporarily? Put miles on the chassis with a cheaper more readily available engine for testing, then continue development on the actual motor in house and running it on an engine dyno for days on end testing reliability?

Actually... I'm in if it's a M2 competition in that new Body A90 body likely weighing less Totally in take my 63k.
400hp/3300lbs

Sounds good Y'all toyota badge it and sell me that shi! I don't care if it says BMW all over the place
That's what I don't get....why would you want a less prestigious branded car that is the same as a prestigious brand car, that costs the same if not more than the prestigious brand car???? It's like someone saying, "I'll take the Toyota LandCruiser for $100K over the $100k Lexus LX570, because Toyota baby!" Makes no sense at all.

Then Toyota would be missing an entry level RWD, they would just have an AWD Sports car if they kill the 86
Why would it be AWD? Only Celica GT4’s were 4WD. Regular Celica’s are either RWD or FWD.

Well, the iron block engine has been kept entirely under wraps aside from me and one other source, so it is possible that Tada is planning to shock the public with a different engine.

I just don't think that makes a ton of sense unless he really wants to create a massive PR stunt. I already have a suspicion that motor will make more power, but if he blindsides the community with a new motor developed at Toyota and makes more power then that would be something to behold.

Also, I remember reading a post from a user in the EU that said when Akio introduced the car for the dealers meeting, he said something like (iirc), 'this car will have an entirely new toyota engine.'

At the time, we scoffed at the idea, but now one has to wonder if that's what he was getting at.

Oh that's simple! Even with your example :)!

1. A90 imho looks better than an M2 comp I don't care about the badge lol I like the way this looks.

2.Despite being the same car basically. If you want to use a Land cruiser to actually go driving around like a safari. There's a bunch of aftermarket support and other stuff. Not much for the LX at least not as much. I mean if you really wanna safari in luxury like that I think a Gwagon or a Land Rover is a better choice. I'd still buy a Toyota because it's highly likely more reliable and I prolly wouldn't care as much if I hit a tree or something w/e. I actually off-roaded in a friend's LX and preferred the FJ of another friend. *shrugs*

It's not always about the badge man, I'm sure lots of us it doesn't matter the brand if it's a good car and you as a person like it. Who cares what others think.

So we’re thinking that the iron block motor is the engine Toyota’s been secretly working on?

Man, the anticipation is killing me. I’m ready to ball out, Toyota! Just give me something fast :spaz:

M2 vs Supra

While I'm sure there will be some cross shopping between the two; one is a heavier luxury 2+2 coupe while the other is a lighter weight sports car. I also think the Supra will look way better. Its more compact and sleeker, while the M2 looks taller and chunkier. It just comes down to preferences.

I agree it’s not always the badge, but in the example above, the LandCruiser and LX570 are identical cars with the same aftermarket support....they are IDENTICAL cars, so your point is sort of moot. You would still buy the $100k LandCruiser over the $100k IDENTICAL (same exact capabilities and more, yet more prestigious named) Lexus LX570??

I think your still stuck in this limbo of thinking this new Supra is a Toyota....when it’s not. I used the example of a M2 because it’s a BMW with (probably) same hardware. So, to you just because it’s a BMW with a Toyota badge, costing the same as a BMW, that automatically makes the Supra a completely different car?? Bravo Toyota, you’ve discovered your target market.

Prove it. Right....all speculations at this point. So, please don't get offended when I say, actions speak louder than words. To me DIFFERENT should mean that a Toyota Supra should get a Toyota rear end, and BMW Z4 should get a BMW rear end. I guess, my definition of DIFFERENT may not align with yours. If all we are getting with a upper trim model is a M2 Competition package with Toyota badging at the same price as an M2C? Then count me out...

I mean. I dont know what you expect. Of course all the parts will be BMW parts. Its manufactured by them. But I have no doubt there will be a serious difference between the cars. I dont care if the glass or a washer says BMW. That's just the way manufacturing works and allowing this car to be created.

There is a huge expectation riding on this car and its possible that when the engineering began Toyota did not realize quite the amount of pressure on them to create such a good car.

It could be possible that's the reason for this "new engine". They want to give the fans something to be excited about.

Like I said I don't care If the parts say BMW. Toyota will have had a ton of R&D in this thing and I dont think they will let it fail. They have been very forthcoming saying it's not engineered as twins like the 86/BRZ.

The 86/BRZ are identical twins...the Z4 and Supra are fraternal twins....same mother (BMW), but the two look different. The big misconception here I think is that everyone believes the Supra will have Toyota designed and engineered parts made by BMW. That cannot be the case...BMW is not the outsourcing company for Toyota’s design team, or vise versa. If parts say BMW on them, then BMW designed and engineered them. If you feel that just because Tada San says the BMW parts are “OK” to use, doesn’t make the new Supra a Toyota.

Now, I am still curious in knowing what makes the Supra at this point so special vs the Z4? Why wouldn’t I buy the similarly priced and spec’s BMW over its fraternal brother?
