I understand people being upset about BMW being a huge part of the MKV. I'm a Toyota purist to the core but I honestly didn't care much about this. For all those who hate the MKV for having BMW parts, just take it out of the equation and tell me if you don't like what you hear (this is all rumors and speculations of course):

Toyota Supra MKV:
CGI Inline 6 Turbo 350-400HP (capable of making +600WHP with only supporting mods)
3000-3300 lbs
Lower COG than an 86
As rigid as an LFA
Non DCT 8 Speed transmission (fastest in it's class)
Manual transmission coming later
TSS
Estimated Price below $65k

Tell me this isn't what every Supra enthusiast wants. Why does adding BMW to the equation ruin this car? We all wanted a beast out of the box with a TT V6 pushing 500-600HP but lets all be honest here it would cost over $100k and be called an LC-F. I'm looking at you A70

I think more people are probably a little upset that Toyota hasn't developed this car on their own, rather used a BMW based power plant/engine/interior (based on the prototype), fake vents, no manual. Some people are pure brand haters and don't like BMW (I am not saying that's me), I really don't mind as long as the entire car doesn't scream out BMW.

BRX, manual transmission *may* be coming later, there's no concrete set on whether it's going to be released or not.

Going past all the BMW based stuff, I am looking forward to this car - it's a car that can grow into the tuners market depending on how Toyota will handle the injection or any B58 head limitations that might stop this car from being similar to it's MKIV predecessor in power.

I like.
It's a little too plasticked-up, so not sure how modding would do on that, but you could just unscrew it...

Nowadays, even supercar manufacturers, use a lot of plastics, aside from carbon fiber. Plastics are less durable but they are cheaper and easier to replace(and manufacture as well).

BMW sourced engine? Yes
Brake Calipers? Brembo
Differential? ZF or GKN depending on equipment
Interior? Grupo Antolin, Ficosa, Lear, Sparco, TRW, just to name a few.
Suspension? Bilstein, ThyssenKrupp, and ZF
Factory? Yes contract assembly by Magna-Steyr, they haven’t built an X3 in 2 generations, most recent BMW is the 5er, and they also build the AM Rapide, Jaguar iPace, MB G Class plus more.
Your stating the obvious, of course the transmission is made by another vendor, or the brakes, etc... When I said it is “BMW” i was referencing the ZF trans with a BMW name casting stamped on it, or Brembo’s with BMW casting on it, etc... I am not talking about the sticker or cheap badges. I would be extremely shocked and amazed if the components I mentioned earlier had a Toyota casting on them, instead of BMW from the vendor. Take a look at the Getrag V160 on the MKIV Supra, it clearly had Getrag casting stamped on it, with the Toyota logo casting stamped right next to it. Im saying, we won’t see any of the stuff I mentioned earlier with a Toyota casting stamped next to the vendors name, we will only see BMW’s.

Well for starters, I would in theory be buying a Toyota that's not a Toyota....right?

See, at it's core, the BMW buyers of the Z4 will take great pride knowing their car was built by BMW. All they have to do is open a door or hood or hatch, and see the Bavarian propeller logo proudly displayed everywhere. What about the Toyota guys? The ones who know the how the Yoshiwara or Tahara plants operate in terms of quality control and workmanship. What do they get to see when they open a door, or a hood, or a hatch? A Bavarian propeller?

I would very much like for this forum to create a TSB or Recall registry when the MKV Supra is released. I think then it will put into perspective why all this "BMW talk" matters.

With such a long development and the hordes of test mules all over the world I would expect Toyota-esque ammounts of TSB´s.

As for taking "great pride" in a logo (which has nothing to do with a propeller BTW), well for me, I´ll take great pride if the car performs. Magna-Steyr, BMW, ZF, Brembo, Bosch, Denso or McDonalds logos be damned.

Sorry, “roundels” for you Euro boys:

“The white and blue checker boxes are supposed to be a stylized representation of a white/silver propeller blade spinning against a clear blue sky. For BMW, it was 'a happy coincidence' that the BMW logo symbolized the Bavarian flag colors and represented the company's origin.”

It’s not a myth, the internet even busts the myth by saying, “For BMW, it was 'a happy coincidence' that the BMW logo symbolized the Bavarian flag colors and represented the company's origin.” Which means everyone knows it’s not true, but just a coincidence. However everyone (except cocky Euro boys) call them propellers because there was an ad a long time ago that represented the logo with an old plane.

I don’t give two shits....i aint buying either one (Z4 or MKV).
Outside this forum no one is talking or is even aware of a new Supra. Even dealerships are clueless. This is such a tiny segment of the market compared to what it used to be and that is exactly why we are getting these cars right now, they way they are. Toyota knows this, they just want to be able to use the Supra name again and they are aiming for a new kind of customer.

Toyota is making less and less of their own cars, it’s easier to sell their car while making other companies do all the heavy lifting. What is it, 3 cars in the last 5 years that are not actually a Toyota. Its a new age, new kind of customer.

This is why most of the A80 owners or over the age of 35 don’t like the new one. It represents something completely different.
