Are you sure about this? Then why wouldn’t Toyota show the US spec version as well? Makes no sense for them to show a US version in Europe to gauge feedback. If shown in Europe it should be what they’d be getting in the near future. Oh well.. if logic was used we won’t even be in this scenario of getting a Zupra to begin with.
The review for the z4 sounds like they used the euro spec, and the supra was euro spec. But if Chris Walton drove a us spec z4, then it's obvious there is a huge difference in power and feel to the car. It's adding ambiguity to a project shrouded in mystery. Back to the drawing boards.

I'm kinda sadden by this news too. Not sure how to take it and quite confused tbh. I don't think the Z4 was even trying to be a 'race' car. But if that feels more aggressive than the Supra, what does it say about the Supra?

I wasn’t aware of BMW letting anyone drive the Z4 in the US. I could’ve wrong but as a magazine editor that’s providing feedback.. I’d think he’d be clear about the comparison he was making. If the euro spec Supra is lower in power compared to the euro spec Z4 then this car being a success is thing of hitting lottery in the looks department.

Left overs.. this Zupra is a left over car made with old BMW parts.

I read the review and he test drove over in France so I'm assuming it's Euro-spec. I doubt it would be a 4 cylinder they are driving as that would be unusual for a first impression no matter the chassis and weight,

And as A70 said, I noticed MT mentioned December but written them off as there's no big auto show in December unless they are holding a press conference or reveal somewhere.

I believe the Z4 that was used at France for the press drive was the 382hp US spec Z4.
Thats my take away as well.

Similar to the 3.0-liter twin-scroll single-turbo B58 I-6 in the M240i (335 hp/369 lb-ft), the B58 in our Z4 M40i is torque-rich and more than powerful enough to propel the Z4. However, we were shocked to learn that this version of the B58 in the new Z4 makes nearly 50 horsepower more, at 382 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque in U.S. spec.

Theres a lot of that article that could be dismissed. The fact that he reviewed the Z4 3.5 months ago is too long for a performance comparison if you ask me

That’s the only way you can have a lot of people put a deposit down. If they know the specs they’d run away. Lol

I picked that up too. I wonder what he’s referring to. Is there any validity to what he’s saying?
Likely another press brief/drive before it's official 2019 public unveiling im guessing. Not all that surprising, but given some one of odd things these guys say that completely contradict each other and Toyota, who knows lol.

If a driving impression is strong, it's going to be memorable. Still, BMW gave MT the US-spec and I'm sure Toyota is aware. For Toyota to not give a US-spec is unusual unless a US version was not available there.

I believe it was A70 or riley, but one of them mentioned a CE about the Supra is being tracked very hard over in Shibetsu now, in TMC Japan
. Article below about testing LS400 and LFA and also, a snippet about the creation of the track.

"The Shibetsu Proving Ground — or SPG — opened in 1984 after six years of planning and building. Rumor has it that the scale of the construction was so large, the Soviets mistook it for a fort being created by the Japanese.

Hidden behind heavy security and tall metal fences are five circuits, each varying in size and function. The longest of these is 6.2 miles. The tracks are surrounded with tiny villages of buildings and facilities, used to assess and maintain all kinds of vehicles, ranging from production cars to highly confidential prototype models."
