But the S55 will no longer be produced after next year, not to mention that the b58 is overall a better platform
Not true.

The F83 M4 with the S55 will remain in production until 10/2020. A little over two years from now. The F87 M2 Comp with the S55 could continue a little past that, exact EOP is unknown at the moment.

I guess that's one way to interpret what I meant by after next year.

Nevertheless, the M2 comp wont last must longer after 2020 so I dont see them putting a motor in the car, with a several year lifespan, that will they are currently phasing out beginning with the X3/X4 M releases next year.

In layman's terms, they will not put a S55 in a new car in the same year a car with the next generation motor, S58, is put into another car. Overlap is another thing

There are a couple new model variations in the works that will be powered by the S55 yet to come. A M2 CSL debuting around the end of F87 life cycle. A more potent version of the M4 GTS has been seen testing, a 911 GT3 RS like competitor.

This is what I mean by overlap. The F87 and F82 have had the S55 so they will continue to have it until a new model is released. They will not be putting the S55 in NEW models

Look I don't think any S motor is going near a Toyota product. But if one did, it still could be the S55. Especially if a GRMN variation is a limited production run.

Then why didn't you just say that?

While I can understand why they wouldn't put an S motor in the car, I dont think the S55 will be in there. Since BMW introduced their modular engine architecture and Toyota has been tooling with the B58, it would be the S58 since there will be minimal differences in blocks imo.

And as a matter of preference, BMW can keep their S55, Ill take a B58 all day over it.

The S58 is BMW M's future of their product line. They are not farming it out to Toyota any time soon, if ever. X3M/X4M...then G80 M3....then G82 M4...the G87 M2. Not until after those cars are released will a S58 be seen in any other model, even a BMW.

The S55 is still a possibility in the next 2 years, if Toyota wants to do a short limited run of numbered cars.

Seeing what a lot of Supra owners do to their cars, high hp builds. S55 over the B58 all day every day. S55 is a much more playful motor too on track, very rev happy. B58 is a nice motor...does well in BMW's regular models, good daily driving manners.

Coming from a 335i, I know the N54/N55/B58 might not have the bells and whistles of the S55, but I find performance to be negated if you have to open any motor for preventive maintenance (S motors and rod bearings RIP).

Well already if this info is true it confirms the fact that we will have a supra gr b58. Toyota has obviously devolop a part of the B58 engine with BMW's top engine.
as for the supra grmn i would find it logical if toyota devellopper the high engine jointly with bmw if he had to put a s58.

Especially being part of their Module Engine Architecture and that the S55 is old and has flaws that Toyota would not find acceptable

The official bmw z4 brochure says B58 so don't expect anything more than that!We just have to see what Toyota did to that poor b58 :hmm:
We know we're not talking about the supra GR but the supra GRMN for S58.

To be fair, they have stopped making M versions of the Z4 so we all knew it wasnt going to have an S58. So even if Toyota was allowed to put the S58 in the supra, it still wouldnt be in the Z4 because BMW doesn't have a market for a Z4 M
