Did the 1J (hydro or mech) water pump have a plastic impeller, @Jeff Lange? I vaguely remember that being the case.

The 2JZ originally used a plastic impeller on the water pump. It was changed to metal a few years later.

Jeff
Why did they stop using it and change over to the metal impellers?? Do tell Jeff...:p

The GTE VVTi 2JZ’s had that setup too, no? Everyone replaces them when doing swaps.

Nah they're metal
I was referring to the pump not the impeller....the JDM GTE’s had that hydro pump setup for the fan no? Hydrofan I believe is what they call it.

Nah, Chasers/Mark II/Cresta and JZA70s had hydrofans as well.

The hydrofans are the best at cooling, but heavier, more complicated, and were Japan only afaik so most of the positives are outweighed IMO.

I replaced the hydrofan when I first got my TTR; I left it intact when I had my Aristo though.

The pump assembly is aluminum, but I think the impeller might have been plastic on that or the Soarer 1J mechanical pump (Z30s didn't have hydro).

Of course not....more realistically, 930whp :D.

Those who make 1000hp+ use 1000hp+ and don’t necessarily have traction issues...you assume too much, and give folks little credit nowadays. Those who don't make 1000hp+, would like to....and a new Supra with capabilities like the previous gen “was” the plan. Why do you think everyone is (was) so excited for a new Supra?? Why is the Supra nameplate an internet sensation?? It’s a fact the MKIV is “okay” in chassis design, and handling....so why do people constantly search for them online and pay top dollar for them?? That is the hype, that is the trend, that is what Toyota is riding on....why it called a Z4 a Supra. If Toyota knew the Supra would be in demand and sell like it did in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s....there would be a whole plant dedicated to its build in the heart of Japan, and not rebadge a Z4. This is why “we” are all here....not because it’s going to be called a Supra, but more realistically to see if it will truly be a Supra that can be the next 1000hp+ sensation. Why is there constant talk about 2JZ swapping?....heck, the head engineer even mentioned it.

It’s all about that 1000hp!!
B58 is at 613whp, another 300whp to go. So 1000hp+ is the threshold to use a Supra badge? How many years of development does the aftermarket for the MKV get to meet that threshold?

Your on brother...stock bottom-end of course, right? ;)

If it passes Toyota's reliability test, I wouldn't be worried. Many modern Toyota engines built these days have a block and crankshaft that could handle 1000hp (ex: 2AR-FE & 3UR-FE). They have great cooling and oiling. Even though they're open deck they have ZERO cylinder wall issues.

The only thing that concerns me are the pistons and rods which usually get upgraded before making any serious power unless it had boost from factory. Being a force induced engine I expect low compression pistons and reinforced rods (probably forged). So yes, I would say 1000hp with a factory sealed bottom-end. :nixon:

Does everyone in this world have so much supplemental income that they all will do +1,000 hp mods?

Do you guys not care that any engine mods/tunes actually voids your warranties?

1000hp is not really all that expensive anymore, I mean compared to 10yrs ago. It will only be getting cheaper and cheaper as turbo technology and manufacturing continues to advance. You can get 1000hp today out of a 2JZ for ~$10k...that’s including supporting mods. Quality of parts and how long those mods last is another story.

probably, i bet Papadakis Racing is already building it, but...

wouldn't want the A90 to follow this path:
Dyno-Queen.jpg

yup..i just did that ...in jest! (wears the anti-forum-flaming fire proximity suit)

kidding aside, i hope to see proper handling mods and not just drag/dyno--pissing-contests mods. Starting with some sort of flat underbody panels.
With bolt-ons and an upgraded OEM turbo, B58 is already at an ample 613whp (which is more whp than C7 Z06, 911 Turbo S, Huracan Performante, Viper ACR...you get my point).

Fastest Time Attack machines (UnderSuzuki or HKS TRB-03) are like 200whp above that, slap an EFR9174 kit for the B58 and voila!

IMHO; i find it shortsighted to swap a 2jz into an A90. n55 was 191kg/420lbs, S55 is 205kgs/451lbs, i suspect the B58 to be in that ballpark. Now the erstwhile 2jz-gte is ~625lbs IIRC! Thats 150-200lbs in the worst possible position (the front) while not adding meaningful power.
