PerformanceSound do this forum and you're self a favour and stay away.

All you can do is being negative, and I am sure a lot of people here skip you're posts anyways.

No offence but it's really irritating.
Exactly! A little negativity here and there is ok, but if all you bring to the table is 100% simple pessmism, just hold it in! Some of us are trying to be as patient as possible in anticipation for this car and that pessimism adds nothing to this...we get it, you're not pleased at all...your basis?! Speculation...all reviews have been great thus far and as far as any of us can see, your feet haven't even brushed the surface of those pedals yet.

Yeah,

for some people this mkv & bmw collaboration & mkiv successor thing etc is starting to be like religion. I personally dont mind at all what someone thinks and brings to discussion... but when continously forcing their own belief, it really starts to irritate.

Especially in this case, when car is not released yet  MKIV has cult status and a lot of enthusiast? Sure... but at the end of the day, it`s just car from -90s.

I personally looking forward what kind of car mkv is to drive, daily or track... and then make my judgement.
Newer going sell my mkiv but it is nice to have a open view for new things also ;)

Whatever floats your boat....I would love to see the reaction on your face when you pay $50k+ for a car that will get dusted by cars almost half their price....or when your "venerable" B58 spins a rod bearing and you are settling legal issues with Toyota on why they won't repair your vehicle.

Hah, i`m so peaceful driver... not interested to race on the public roads. For me mkv would be just a nice daily driver. Let the racers race on the track or a rally stage :)

These are just cars any motor can break... hope i still got a warranty in this hypotetical case :)

I don't usually follow BMW news but this popped up on my phone and what do you know, the largest BMW SUV will share the same engine as the MKV. I know the X5 was always gonna have it, but this just pushed me to the edge.

https://www.autoblog.com/2018/10/16/2019-bmw-x7-three-row-crossover-revealed-9102wmb/

I was telling myself the V35A in the LS500 wasn't sporty enough because it comes in Lexury sedans and eventually in the Tundra/Land Cruiser so Toyota didn't want it's halo car sharing the same "boring" engine. But now BMW is just tossing the B58 in everything and it's not even the top trim engine in those SUVs!
It is the end for these big automakers....they grew too quickly only to be left gasping for air now because their sales aren't as strong as they use to be, and they have 401k's and dental plans they need to keep in mind. I mean, look what BMW did with the M2....they stuffed an M3/M4 drivetrain in it to keep them moving. This will be the trend moving forward for the big auto makers....Chevy learned this a looong time ago with their modular V8's. It's the smaller brands that will start to shine soon.

@PerformanceSound Finally, someone who agrees with what I see about this MKV project

I mean, I’m pretty sure this MKV/a90 is gonna be a great car. Phenomenal, I guarantee. I’m pretty sure it will put a lot of smiles in everyone’s faces when they drive it. But this ain’t no Toyota. It’s a BMW labeled as a Toyota and more disgustingly, using the Supra name. They should just called it a ~Toyota 90~ instead. That way the Supra name won’t be ruined.

Say what you guys want, it’s all opinions to everyone, but to the initiated, the Supra name is ruined.

Say what you want, but can someone accurately tell me what did Toyota do in this project aside from initiating a partnership, and just redesigning the body and slapping on Toyota badges on it? Engine is BMW, structure/frame is BMW, interior is BMW. (From what we’ve seen). It’s a full blown BMW

I mean, from here I can safely say, if you want the most Toyota of this a90 Supra, we’re better off opting for the GR Supra since we know that will and might actually have Toyota parts on it. Right?

I mean, I can tell Toyota did this with BMW, because business-wise it makes sense financially and it’s safe.

Flame me, I wanna hear it.

This ain’t no Supra

Will I buy it? Haha! Probably

Of course, until the car is actually out, maybe it will live up to the Supra name. But haha, we’ll see. It all comes down to until we can get our hands on it. If.

Fair enough. I completely agree with your statement that the Supra likely will or will definitely be a phenomenal car. However, I see where you are coming from on the BMW bit. It's a common rhetoric that the Supra is mostly BMW but I honestly think Supra is more a "Toyota halo sports car with inline 6" and whether that definition must include completely in-house by Toyota or not, at least we can agree it'll be a great car regardless!

I tend to follow more along these lines. I'm a Toyota nut and would have preferred it to be all Toyota. But I also don't think the previous 4 generations of supras were super specials cars and I don't really put them on a pedestal. So I don't really care. I'm glad that a more then likely really great sports car is being built and it looks Supraesque.

Does it really though?? I don't see any traits of the MKV that resemble previous Supra's. Wheelbase, size, seating, styling, etc... What Supraesque are you seeing that the rest of us are not???

You can choose to ignore him, but seems like with what he is saying really struck a cord with you emotionally to write a response to him.

But there is truth to what he is saying whether you like it or not.

First off the styling is very Japanese. But the overall shape of the car and fender shapes is straight Mk4. The dash for me looks like a what a modernized version of the mk2 supra dash is. Size is pretty close to all the others. Like if you just pictured a mk4 designed in 2015 instead of 1990 I think it's not far off what it would look like.

I think you're primarily the one that's in a huge stink over this car. I kinda don't really care about the lineage or name. This car is nearly as different as the mk3 was to mk4 so I don't really get the fuss.

As @EDub said, the car is very Japanese in its styling (apart from its BMW mirrors)...sure, the overall car is smaller than the MKIV; however, its hood's overhang and short rear end with a set-back cockpit is very reminiscent of the MKIV...furthermore, the modern take on the MKIV's enlongated headlights and horizontal tail lights pays due homage to the MKIV without compromising a modern look...
All four generations of Supra's were radically different from their respected predecessor and simply went along with the styling that made it fit with the times (look at the MK3 with looks of that generation of RX7, Camaro, TransAm, Z, and Corvette)...they all had that "box-like" 80's look with downward sloping front end/hood...as the 90's rolled around, all those cars got softened with more rounded edges.
In my opinion, the MKV is a beautiful take on sports cars of this era...and while it may not have the exact "school bus-esque" taillights and curvaceous spoiler of the MKIV that we've all come to deem as very "Toyota" and "Supra", the MKV seems to carry much more elements of previous generations in comparison to all others generations...I believe Toyota has captured this is a very smart and discrete way while engineering a far more rigid chassis that any Supra that came before.
As austentacious and wild as the FT-1 was, Toyota did well to capture it in a production car...furthermore, take a look at the side by side images of the MKV with the 2000GT in the Jarama pics. If one takes the time to look at the two cars, the manner in which the upper body structure is layed out is rather similar in regards to the cockpit placement and the sloping of the roof.
Seen below...
