A hatchback Yaris with AWD capabilities and some grunt with torque should be plenty of fun. Keep it around 3000-3200 lbs and I feel Toyota can capture part of the market.

So when is the news going to break that they are making this car alongside the WRX STI hatchback for the new generation? Not trying to be pessimistic but the track record has my hopes a bit down.
Im not expecting a golf or focus fighter but i dont know why toyota acts likes a 168hp na 4cyl is their only 4cyl when all their competitors have turbo 4

This is my problem. I live at 6500 feet above sea level. 168 hp IS NOT ENOUGH to have fun where I am. We lose so much power. So any new sporty car should be minimum 250-300 up where I am. I wouldn’t consider any car under those numbers.

My 1991 180sx is 220hp (2700lbs) and it’s 28 years old for Christ sakes...why Toyota cannot get with the program is beyond me.

My mkiv Supra is modded to hell and back so that’s a different story.

I daily a Focus ST that’s all bolt ons and tuned and I wish it had more. But my next daily will for sure.

Don't see how Mazda gets any benefits.A new mazda 3 hatch? Cool, but unless they want a hoon version, can't imagine them signing off.

If toyota wants the hot hatch crowd , either the chassis needs to be rigid, weigh less than 3100 lbs or be equipped with 250-260 HP. Out of those three, pick any two and it's a winner.

I wrote that before finding out about this photo.

now I'm interested.

What if Toyota works with Mazda and Toyota gets this rally car and Mazda gets a speed3? I’m just messing around though lol.
Not implying that they would do a shared performance project. But the Yaris sedan* chassis is now based of a Mazda Demio (Mazda 2)

A70TTR, a little bird told me that Toyota is going to ship "quite a few" A90 chassis' to Motomachi, Toyota City, Japan for something special. Would you happen to know what that would be for? :hmm:

Isn't the LFA facility in Motomachi?

I have not heard that unfortunately, but that doesn't mean it's not happening. I honestly haven't heard much of anything new the past few months aside from backpedalling after presenting evidence contrary to what was being said.

Motomachi is where the Supras (A80) were made after production was transferred from Tahara (A60/A70) in the early 90s, and yes also where the LFA was made. It is generally regarded as a very high level facility and the ex F1 technical factory is housed there iirc (LFA used this afaik).

What are you thinking might be happening here?

I honestly don't know...that is why I asked A70TTR, thought maybe he might have heard something (office rumors). If it's true....maybe a ultra limited run of a Supra with the Lexus TT V6 that is supposedly going into the "F" cars?? I dunno, that's just a shot in the dark. Maybe a super light-weight all carbon fiber bodied Supra?? Maybe prepping cars for racing??

Hmmm....interesting. Not going to think too much into it, but if they made this move once, they could technically do it again with the A90 no?

Gotcha. I'm on that same boat. The "quite a few" comment has me a little dumbfounded. Makes it seem as thought there is as special edition type of thing going on.

They (Toyota) would be out of their mind if all they offered was a rumored 340HP option car. A limited production Japanese built A90 would be incredible....but, let's not get our hopes up.

actually, one of the latest rumors is that it may ship with 340hp for the first 1-2 years and then get bumped to 385. some of the meetings here in the US had the power level set at ~355hp for US models, but that VIN decoder thing has made everyone wonder what the facts are.

this rumor could explain why the earlier cars were testing with lesser power, but who knows. hopefully they aren't doing that...

in any case, if those cars are being shipped to Toyota City, then TRD or Gazoo might be doing something special with them as said. I'm not sure what they may be doing specifically however.
