Motor Trend did a video on what was involved in the new 2018 Camry build. Seems like Calty design had a lot of input on the design and aerodynamics. A good thing seeing how they made the LC500 from concept to production based on their design. Good things for this upcoming FT-1/Supra since they did design it for great aero dynamics purposes though it seems we still gotta wait.

Is it just me, or does the Camry look similar to the upcoming MKV Supra? Especially that front bumper...

TRD Camry and Avalon:

https://www.motor1.com/news/276190/toyota-camry-avalon-styling-revealed/

Avalon is kinda meh, but I don't dislike it per se.... That Camry though, NO.
The seats look nice, I dont see how there are a more sporty upgrade to all red but whatever. I am liking the black trim.

The rear on the Camry was already aggressive, both the Camry and Avalon needed front end tweaks instead.

The wheels and that spoiler are horrendous though. Just painting the XSE wheels black and adding a lip spoiler to the trunk would have given them a much better look

now available with AWD, only with 2.5L 4 cylinder for now... Because they want to push people into the AWD ES.

Yeah but the V6 is where it's at. Honestly if they slap the AWD system in the V6 (and the hybrid) and fix the shitty transmission tuning and FOR THE LOVE OF JESUS stopped cutting power from the engine, you'd have a hell of a car.

They just released the RAV4 Prince (plug-in hybrid) that makes just as much power as the V6 models and is stupidly quick too for what it is, but it is on the TNGA-K platform, where's the V6?

What really scares me is this though. Since the new RAV4 is as good on paper as the Camry, will the death of the V6 in the Camry be due to the plug-in hybrid system? Will the successor of the V6 Camry be a "Camry Prime"? That means for the first time ever, the top model in a Camry will have a CVT. Only on a Corolla would I accept a CVT (because of the launch gear) but even then I would pick the i-MT over it.

The V6 AWD is coming to the ES, in addition to Hybrid e-AWD.

Avalon and Camry will likely follow eventually :)

YUH YEEEEET! This made my day! Guess I'm getting a Camry now.

It's funny. If you look at the comments from Car&Driver after they released the news that the Camry and Avalon are getting AWD but only with the 4-cylinder models, everyone was extremely happy but on the other hand people were upset that the V6 didn't get it. Some people who are actually quite conservative and you may not expect those users to get a Toyota said that they would IMMEDIATELY go cop one if the V6 had AWD.

I really think Toyota is making some major strides (unlike Lexus who is behaving like Acura) and they are really getting their mojo back. They're pulling all of the necessary stops and are really giving consumers (and enthusiasts) a second thought about going to Honda or Mazda. Even magazines and publications are taking notice, though you can tell through their writing that they're still shocked from this major change from Toyota, but they can't deny that it's good. It wasn't even just a few years ago we were thinking how sad this brand is.

There are a few reasons why they are 4cyl AWD only, but the two most important are: they basically just copy pasta'd the RAV4 system into the Camry and Avalon and because the ES will be getting the V6 AWD first. So, the solution is to buy a Lexus when it debuts :)

I've also heard Toyota themselves tell us to stay tuned for the their V6 models. The unfortunate thing is that it would be too fat with the AWD system. I hope it's more performance oriented, finally stopped cutting power and have the transmission shift like how a normal transmission should.

Also the 4 cyl is 99% of Camry sales
