Had a call from my supplying dealer today.

Went a bit like this...

“Hello it’s X from Toyota, my system says you’ve ordered a Cupra. Wait, I meant Supra. Is that right?”

“Yes, that right”

“Ok, I was only ringing to check”

“Great, I’m really looking forward to it. I bought one of the first GT86s in the country from you in 2012”

“Oh, ok. Well I don’t know anything about the Supra, you will probably know more than me”

“Will you know more after the launch in Detroit in January?”

“I didn’t know it was being launched in January. All I know is people that have ordered one already are getting early access test drives...

* I got excited at this point *

...sometime at the end of next year”

“At the end of 2019?”

“Yeah, first deliveries are ages away. I don’t know when I’ll speak to you next. Bye”

Not a great start.

Got my deposit down - but on sunday went to see an X2 with my girlfriend, and sat next to it was the M2 comp.

My god that car looks good!

This supra has to be special when revealed otherwise i think my deposit will be going elsewhere.

I got an email from my local Toyota dealer yesterday:

"Hi Stefan, Toyota GB has now allocated your funds to our branch sou our accounts department require me to raise an order form." He then asks for full name, address, DOB and mobile number.

I replied and asked if he had any idea where I was on the list. Apparently I'm no 143, so seems Toyota have at least 143 cars with deposits on in the UK. I'm a little miffed though, I signed up an hour after it was announced. I'd be surprised if they had that many that quickly, so I guess your place in the system is a little random and not based on sign up time.

They were advertising on facebook til recent - i reckon they prob shifted 200 quickly, then struggled on the final 100.

I got a bit carried away and put my deposit down on a car i hadnt really paid much attention to. Post deposit, have read a few reviews and am very excited!

Was a choice between this, the M2 Competition or a new cayman.

Looking forward to the promised events etc in the build up to launch, and receiving my car next September.
Also reserved one as it sounds an exciting car. Similarly though, I’m also still toying with M2 comp, RS3 saloon or a used cayman s 981 or Jaguar F-Type. Will be clearer after the launch and when specs & prices are out.

Can’t be in too much demand if the 300 hadn’t already gone. Did mine on Christmas Day.

I can see a lot of deposits being cancelled once the spec/price is revealed.

Problem Toyota have is they have dragged this launch out for SO long, people just bored of waiting, and those who have waited now need to be blown away otherwise the car will be a let down.

To those who put down a reservation, did Toyota tell you guys around how much the Supra would cost when it becomes available?

In the UK, the price will need to stat with a 4. It’s not even fully reserved here so can’t see people paying over £50k. In my opinion.

IF it starts with a 4 ... it needs to be low 4's .... otherwise the Cayman will steal all its thunder.

Bearing in mind that not all have been reserved in the UK I think it will need to undercut the Cayman by a long way. Problem in the UK is that as soon as you go over 40k list your clobbered with the stupid VED surcharge for 5 years so the low 40k's don't make a lot of sense. Hope I am wrong but I suspect Toyota will go higher 40's fully loaded and try and offer better value than the Cayman. The Porsche price increases rapidly with a few extras which I would have expected as standard so I suppose Toyota could use that to show what great value the car is.

TBH and I know I am in the minority, from the teaser pics and videos so far I think I would be more likely to opt for the Cayman at a 10K premium.
Not trying to be negative about the Supra, it's just not saying buy me like the GT86 did at the moment and yes I have reserved one and paid my deposit.

Totally agree with you re the pricing and the wow factor.

Seems in the US far more demand for the car then here where it's very much an also ran already.

Think the drawn out launch process isnt helping, nor the fact that it's auto only - which is where I'm really struggling.
