It would be sad. The LC 500 is a good indication that this is also coming. Remember the LF-LC was a design study nothing else, but so is the FT 1 which caused the same reaction the LF-LC did.

Yea and the FT-1 has the Supra heritage and reputation to benefit from too, something the LC 500 didn't.

He shares a lot of interesting points about the new LC500. Confirms platform can be used for other front engine / RWD + other alternative powertrains = Possibly FT-1/Supra?

Peter Lyons from Motoring Australia has just unleashed a wild rumor concerning a potential supercar from a Lexus/BMW joint project:

Our source lets on that both companies have jointly built a prototype in a mid-engined layout with full-time AWD.

Toyota is rumoured to be testing a detuned version of its Le Mans TS040 race car’s 520hp (388kW) 3.7-litre V8 for the Lexus version of the supercar. And with the 480hp (358kW) produced by the front and rear [electric] motors, the total power output would reach the magic number of 1000hp (745kW).

Our insider says however that “while 1000hp is possible, fuel consumption, emissions concerns and engine tolerance figures will see a more realistic figure of 800hp (596kW) targeted.”

The idea of Lexus and BMW collaborating on a supercar has been going on since the Toyota/BMW technology sharing agreement was signed in 2011. Normally, this would be written off as pure crazy, but Peter Lyons has been accurate with Lexus rumors in the past.

Even if there’s a shred of truth to this news, there are too many moving parts to say if this is a car that will be released — let’s not ignore the BMW side of the equation:

And here’s the highlight. From what our insider reveals, there are two power units currently under development. The power source for BMW’s supercar will be a bespoke M-developed straight-six twin turbo with plug-in hybrid technology courtesy of Toyota.

Lexus to Debut 800 Horsepower Next-Generation LFA at 2019 Tokyo Motor Show?

Despite all evidence otherwise, Japanese website Response is reporting Lexus will introduce a new LFA at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.

The rumor takes it even further, suggesting that this LFA successor will be powered by 3.7L V8 hybrid capable of 800 horsepower — this is down considerably from the previous rumors of a 1,000 horsepower hypercarbeing built by Lexus & BMW.

No matter the details, it seems unlikely. Senior-level executives have repeatedly said there are no immediate plans for a next-generation LFA, and besides, it’s more likely that the eventual LC F coupe will fill the top of the Lexus performance lineup more comfortably.

^ I agree...and no official update from Toyota on the FT-1/Supra is no help. Seems like a Supra revival is becoming more likely. Lexus / BMW positioning a car in the same position for similar prices sounds more realistic than a BMW / Toyota car built for 2 different classes. I guess we'll have to keep on waiting :bat:

I would rather the Toyota/BMW car be the rumored LFA successor. I'm hoping a new Supra will be 100% Toyota and underpin the new LC. BMW's electronics are a nightmare. I had 4 computers fail on my E60 M5. My mechanic told me I should have gotten a MB instead. He said anything above a 3/4 series is garbage when it comes to electronics and you're just asking for issues later down the road. With that said I doubt Toyota would want to ruin their reliable image by putting BMW's junk computers into their Supra flagship sports car.

^ I agree 100%. Any idea if anything is to come to the LA auto show in November? It's the last big auto show besides Pebble Beach but I don't see a debut at Pebble Beach for this.

While I agree that I'd rather the new Supra be 100% Toyota developed, that would mean that it's still many many years away from reality :( At least if it turns out to be co-developed with BMW as most everybody seems to be saying, we know we're probably within a couple of years of release since the BMW prototype has already been spied out doing testing.

Doubt they'd announce it this early if they were gonna show anything at Pebble. They don't even have to announce it ahead of time at all if they want to make it a big surprise.

Never been a Lexus fan. Always been a German car snob. All I can say is ..... the Supra had better be a better all around, quicker sportcar than this Lexus. The analogy is the Chevy Corvette and Cadillac. Cadillac has been putting in monster engines in their cars, but everyone knows that the Corvette is king.

The Supra FT-1 should be king. Period. I don't want to pull up next to a Lexus and wonder if I'm going to have my a** handed to me.

lol this new "Supra" isn't going to beat the LC F and it would surprise me if it ends up being faster than than the LC 500...unless Toyota scraps the project and decides to join Nissan and Honda in the 6 figure game.

Lexus are worthy vehicles, I do wish I had the moolah for the LC

Agreed. I would say that your $60k Supra will get it's ass handed to it by this 600hp, $150k+ Lexus, and that should be no surprise. Although it may be surprisingly close with the weight differences, but I'd say the LCF would be the clear winner. That doesn't mean "better" to me.
