yeah, there are some confirmed tuners of the car from HKS to Trust/Greddy, and some others on the JDM side, let alone the usual Euro stuff. the involvement of the car in motorsport is going to be a driving factor in this as well, just as it was with the 86.

my belief is the JDM tuners will either work with or rely on Euro tuners for the ECM/TCM and focus on hardware, otherwise they will be behind for a long time unless they develop a standalone option.

I have had friends in the mid 800s and one even went low 900s stock bottom 2jz (cams, fuel, headstuds, turbo, standalone) , but they are a time bomb at that level. The 900+ unit still made that for a couple years though before bending a rod.
This is what I have been trying to get across to some folks, that 1000hp on stock bottom-ends are simply for bragging rights and not real-world use. Running a 1000hp on stock bottom-end 2JZ is crazy, any MKIV owner will agree. Heck, guys rip apart their 2JZ motors at 650hp to play it safe.

Not to mention two tuning cultures, Euro and JDM, will be combined thus doubling the performance R&D

Exactly! It will be a very HOT market....very excited for this.

Yeah i think they need to collaborate with euro tuners. Current reading/writing tools are provided by Dimsport, Autotuner and Magic Motorsports. Tuners rely on these guys tool to adjust their tunes. Ecutek which you might be familiar with also use their own tool and their own tuning program and i bet they will support Supra too. Cobb abandoned BMW tuning scene, maybe they will come back for Supra. And of course Burger Tuning, the major BMW tuner that supplies decent piggybacks. I think anyone who wants to tackle Supra aftermarket should work with these guys or the guys that helped these big providers in the first place (the Russian/Israeli/German people i mentioned before).

I don’t agree the demand being much higher than BMW’s, that market seems to be underestimated. 335i’s for exampe are pretty cheap right now and kids all want to tune their cheap cars thats why BMS has sold tens of thousands of piggybacks so far. The way i see it, there are two main advantages with Supra.

First, The name which ultimately plays a big role in hype and every one wants to be a major player. And second, the buyers budget. These cars are not cheap therefore owners will be spending large moneys to get the aftermarket rolling from the get go. N54 could have the same market, but because it took so long to get aftermarket to be developed that the cars depreciated to the level that it was a 15,000 dollar car that no one would spend 50k on modding it. Supra though will have a up to date aftermarket and buyers with deep pockets. It will not make 1000 hp though soon IMO :D

Can we open an online pool? I am not advocating gambling, but I seriously don't mind putting money into a pool of how soon MKV's will be hitting 1000hp.

You have no idea how bad some big name tuner shops want to be the first to hit 1000hp on a MKV....start with local shops like Sound Performance ;).

He doesn't own the shop, has no affiliation to it actually or than name being similar.
SPMS is correct....I have no affiliation with Sound Performance. Fantastic shop and Larry and his crew do amazing things with Supra's.

My username derived from a car salesman trying to sell me a car in the past by pitching the ole' "....it really has that performance sound doesn't it?"

So the German Supra will have to fight with the already 1000whp base Supra, that's interesting.

sort of a similar idea to what happens when base corvettes and other cars are released and then they release the specialized cars (Z06/ZR1).

there's a car for everyone and every goal, but most times the initial base cars are already way past the factory upgraded ones if there's a release delay, but this is all just conjecture anyways.

I'm going to place my bet on timeline for that power level at right around where the VR38 was... so, I'd say ~2/3 years

which is coincidentally about where I place GRMN release :)
Wait....you all do realize I’m referring to the GRMN’s timeline right???;)
