BMWBlog did testing in the new M340i and they claim the car would have hit 3.7s if they were aiming to record a 0-62 time. Even if that isn't accurate, the car can sure get up there https://www.bmwblog.com/2018/12/12/bmw-m340i-xdrive-0-100-km-h-0-200-km-h-launch-control/Click the link in that article.
“...the German automaker says it will sprint to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds.”
Where is CNET getting 3.9 for the Z4? BMW rates the DCT M4 at 3.9.
Do you know if the Euro Supra is getting the gas particulate filters? Find it odd the how the Z4 M40i has 335hp in Euro market and US market gets 382hp(minus the filters). While the Supra has the same 335hp in both markets.it's likely the US Z4 that does 3.9 and that's not shocking at all given it has a 50hp advantage over the A90.
it is a little strange however given the Z4 weighs 50lbs more than the Supra...
So North America version is 0.5sec quicker without the particulate filters. Euro Z4 is 4.4sec with 335hp.BMWBlog claims BMW of North America officially announced 3.9s as well but there are no source links to confirm

Please note that the new BMW Z4 M40i press information and specifications have been updated with the official 0-60 mph acceleration time (3.9 seconds), curb weight (3,443 lbs.) and gross vehicle weight (4,092 lbs.).
