I see you are in Europe. The Z4 M40i you get will have exact same output, 335hp.
Yeah I understand that, but why would they put themselves in a disadvantage in their biggest market (US)?... just doesn't make sense to me especially considering the constant backlash from the car community, I really thought they were listening and trying to improve the car...

Maybe they just wanted to disappoint everyone equally. ;)

Perhaps it's a marketing stunt. Perhaps they know people will bash on the numbers anyway, and the defense people have been using is "but it'll be tunable!" to justify the terrible launch numbers. By leaving the restrictive exhaust on, it'll feed that fire when everyone starts touting "I made 50 HP from just an exhaust! These cars are undertuned and it's totally not underpowered!"

So the USA car weights actually more? I'm asking coz I just realized your weight is said to be 1540kg while on EU presentation for press Toyota said its 1495kg for 3.0?

Love it for the most part, but that weight...oof.

At that price point and weight I would almost prefer and M2(c). The Supra is definitely the hot ticket though.

So there will be even lower power trim? Less 200 in a Supra sounds.... eh?
Also, I dont see where does GT86 fit into this ? 200hp Supra would be just bit faster than 86 costing prob more. Also they are working already on new 86 for around 2022, that will likely have over 200+, maybe from 2.5 Subaru engine. What's the point?

Although I'm disappointed by the weight and not offering a 380hp variant at launch (or MT of course, but we knew thats how it would be), overall its a pretty good launch and a decent product they are serving up at a decent price. I would like official clarification if that weight is for the Premium version though. Probably is as they generally give stats for the best version of the car, even if that one is loaded with mostly tech upgrades and heavier seats (but also apparently the brembos?). Very glad to hear the base car has the same active suspension and diff though. I suspect the base car is the 335hp motor to leave room for a coming GRMN version. In the BMW catalog, the only other trim of that motor is the 380hp version as its pretty unlikely BMW will give up their smoking M3/4 version to Toyota, so I guess the default motor is no big surprise. I do hope we get the 4 banger too though so we can get a super light version of this car for 2j swaps with a lot of the standard issue for this day and age convenience garbage deleted since that is obviously what is driving this tiny ass car's weight up.

I do hope we get the 4 banger too though so we can get a super light version of this car for 2j swaps with a lot of the standard issue for this day and age convenience garbage deleted since that is obviously what is driving this tiny ass car's weight up.
I'm pretty sure you'll get the weight right back up with a 2JZ.

Also guys, don't get too hung up on the factory claimed 335hp. You all seem to be missing the standard 365lbs/ft, that is actually the important number there. The low HP high torque means its got a beefy motor with a strong turbo and either a restrictive exhaust or a soft out of the box tune that's limiting output on the very top end. HP is a function of torque, and even small bumps in torque at high RPM net high HP numbers. But high HP numbers do not mean fast, good torque through out the entire power band is what delivers that. The missing 40hp (13% less) only means the motor is probably down 10lbs/ft on the top end (which wouldn't alter the peak torque figure) compared to the 382hp version, which is less then a 5% difference in acceleration in the real world. Note the stats of the two motors (from wikipedia)....

B58B30M1 250 kW (335 hp) at 5,000–6,500 rpm 500 N⋅m (369 lb⋅ft) at 1,600–4,500 rpm 2018
B58B30O1 285 kW (382 hp) at 5,000–6,500 rpm (369 lb⋅ft) at 1,600–4,500 rpm 2018

It appears the two motors have the same redline and the same peak torque figures. This is likely just a tuning difference between the two motors, and maybe an exhaust upgrade somewhere. My guess is the actual 0-60 times between the 2 motors will only vary by .1 or .2 seconds.

so my source was right about it being 1495kg (source is in JP)... interesting.

so the US car is indeed the fat one due to all that nonsense.

Yeah for sure the iron block will add some, but there is a lot of crap in this car that can be dropped if you want a more pure driving or racing machine (power folding mirrors? pass). Also, the 2jz head is likely lighter. No timing chain in the 2jz or Vanos system or air to water intercooler. All of those are heavier then what the 2jz came with.

The car looks great, but I can't get very excited with the GRMN in mind, I was hoping this one ends up with the same short block as the GRMN, but I guess that's out the window. If there wasn't going to be a German one I would've like it better, now, not as much. Getting this would always make you feel lacking, shame really. And I was running all over youtube telling people that their wrong and this car will sell like hot cake and soon will be pushing 1000whp, maybe I'm the one that was wrong? I mean tunability was a goal and yet you need to swap the head? Would that count as a bolt on? Kind of killed my excitement for the car.
There won't be a grmn edition. This, now officially a turd, will be such a flop, it will be killed before then.

No no, look the post #51 on page 4, it says 197hp and 6.5 0-100, thats what I'm talking about. Even lower trim than 2.0 258hp.

It's like the old saying "Horsepower sells cars, but torque wins races". But why not both? :)

I'm just trying to find out what Toyota did with the calibration. People were like "OMG Toyota is doing their own tuning, it's going to be a completely different car". What did they do exactly? Modify the throttle response?
