So is that to assume that that the GRMN version may be a hotter B58 (doubt it) or maybe the next gen M3/M4 engine detuned? If it's the next gen M3/M4 engine, will it come with the manual and double clutch option?
S58 is what you're looking for unless BMW doesn't want to share it's latest and greatest with Toyota then maybe just the relatively older S55. Worst case (or best case if you got the 2020 MY) is a B58 with a little more boost.

I feel like Toyota would not just simply turn up the boast to make the GRMN version because increased boast will affect the reliability of the engine. I'm sure reliability had a part in the 335 claimed hp whereas the Z4 has 385hp. I know they put it down to some particulate filter but dang, that is some filter to rob that much hp.

I'd guess the S55 won't work because of emissions so I would have to think that it would be the next gen M3/M4 (S58) engine.

I know that everyone feels excited when thinking of a GRMN version!
And that's not bad...
But we should never forget that this joint platform will most probably NOT deviate from its BMW sibling at that extend.
A GRMN version will have a powertrain, suspension, brakes, etc identical to a possible Z4M.
Don't expect a Gazoo Racing tuned engine.

BMW isn't interested in Z4M

The Supra has gotten much more real-world hype from where I'm sitting, meaning real customers calling and money being put up, so that bodes well. I really wish they had come out at 385, if only to position the Supa better on paper.
Something inside me tells me that power is coming later on the facelift Supra !And the GRMN at 420-430hp

BMW can keep the S55 at that point. B58TU > S55 IMO.

S55 is proven 1000hp capable, I had a F80 M3. It was a ton of fun. Tons of torque, very little lag.
It's a great motor, I didn't say it was bad.

But with all S engines, ownership comes with a price. I believe the S reliability woes don't outweigh the performance advantages of the B58

Iā€™m pretty sure, this has been flirted with.

But what do you guys think of Toyota simply reviving the 2JZ-GTE and completely rebuilding and re-mastering it and modernize it with todayā€™s standard, even possibly squeezing more out of the engine.

And use that in the GRMN. Of course M/T as a cherry on the top.

Since Iā€™m sure, Toyota wonā€™t develop a new inline6. Might as well use a inline6 they already had in the past. A v6 in my opinion doesnā€™t fit a Supra. But Iā€™d rather take a Toyota v6 over a B58.

Wishful thinking

But on the real though, the MKV will always be a BMW regardless GRMN or not.

Sad truth.

After putting so much reliability into the B58 and R&D, I think Toyota will go forward with the B58 only.

If they ever go with the CGI block then the B58 can be tuned further up to 700hp i hear. Which should be enough for this chassis.
But i am sure the quarter mile or traffic light racers will want more :)

To be realistic, I believe any GRMN version of the car will be utilizing the current hardware. Most of the modifications will likely be cosmetic with some tinkering to produce more HP out of the b58. Toyota spends a lot of time testing engines for reliability, no chance in hell they do all that again for a new engine on a limited release car. Anyone who tries to fool you into thinking the GRMN is the car to save up for is being ridiculous imo. Even if there is a car, itā€™ll be years before you see it.

This Supra is your Supra, enjoy it. It looks like a damn fine car already. And if you want a higher powered version, I have no doubt the aftermarket will easily allow you to do the same modifications the GRMN would come with. My 2 cents.

Itā€™s not as easy as it sounds. Everything would have to be revised. Sensors, emissions, pistons, bearings, headers, turbos, etc. everything would be different and likely worse. Toyota once knew how to build inline 6ā€™s. But with todayā€™s requirements? Not so much.

I spoke to A70. He said the 700hp motor IS the B58. During development they apparently tested it to that level without failure.

Replacing the block with an iron one (if they used it) or stronger internals isn't as easy, at minimum it will probably have a better head, which I'd be fine with, but anything more would be annoying. A bigger turbo and accommodating parts are probable, but you'd change those in either version anyway if you're looking for more power so that shouldn't worry anyone. So, we'll just have to see what will be different.
