I hear what Australian of The North is saying. I've seen more negative comments then excitement, even on Toyota's social media that I've stopped counting. They even sent an update to help calm the fire. That should mean a lot.

I recall the level of excitement for the FT-1 was absolutely breathtaking. I just received my copy of Motortrend with the MKV on the front. The article by Editor-in-Chief Edward Loh saying that the FT-1 on the cover was the highest selling magazine. Fast forward to 2019 and it's a complete 180 degree shift with the Supra MKV 4 yrs later.

There is no doubt that concept->production models become grossly watered down and the MKV really struck a nerve that resonated through the entire car community. Since we're on the forums getting all of the details by midnight, we've already gotten a chance to "sleep on it". The rest of the world that's not honed to the Supra/Toyota/Imports didn't get briefed on anything so seeing this car a week before the unveiling was a shock. The Detroit auto show was pouring salt on the wound.

At the end of the day, we just have to accept it for what it is. Toyota delivered a car but they did not deliver.

A simple truth is, you cant argue with the majority - its the basis of your democracy.

If everyone in the world is saying one thing, and you disagree with them, then its simple - your wrong, regardless of any truths or injustices you may hold. Your wrong, your the odd one out. The Majority always rules.

In this case, they (the vast majority of the internet) has condemned the MkV on a vast array of fronts.
-They are the Majority, they are the representative viewpoint on the car.
-They have very significant concerns over almost all aspects of the car, none of which have had remotely suitable answers from appropriate respondents.
-If they say its Not deserving of the name, then its not deserving of the name.
-if they say its too expensive, its too expensive.
-if they say its a cash grab, then its cash grab.
-if they say its a Z4 then its a Z4.
-If they say its got a problem with this or that, or whatever, then it HAS a problem with this that or whatever.
-If they say its a failure, its a failure.

You can argue all you like at how unfair that is, how wrong it is, how incorrect they are, how they all have "elitist attitudes", but that's the way it is.
Toyota Failed to win over the Majority with this Car. They continue to pit themselves against the majority, and democracy is punishing them for it.

Unfortunately this site is a bit of a social odd-bubble, with the majority of people on here being sympathetic to the MkV, and a good further portion being died-in-the-wool rose goggle fanboys. So the conversation here is skewed and imbalanced in its overall viewpoint compared to almost all other sites discussing the car. Its very hard to have an opposing conversation here that doesn't degrade into instinctive-emotion based responses.

My advice for Toyota, go back and really truly listen to the voice of the MkIV. I expect it would use this quote if it could talk.

"Learn from me. I wasn't the best because I killed quickly. I was the best because the crowd loved me. Win the crowd. And you will win your freedom."

Iā€™m starting to believe you are a troll. You sound like one of those guys that try to hard and will do anything to fit in, even if you donā€™t believe it yourself, you want and seek acceptance.

The ā€œmajority?ā€ Do these majorities actually own past model supras, nonetheless a car, or are these the same internet momā€™s basement types that just stir shit up? Spew negativity just because they have somewhat of a voice online?

Trade your 911 for a gt3, problem solved, donā€™t look back.

:headbang: Oh hell yeah. Ever since Ryan @ Eibach sold his 997.1 C2S for a 997.1 GT3, it's been on my mind to finally go GT3. My C2S is fun but a white (or Aqua Blue) 997.2 GT3 will always be on my radar. My wife thinks I'm absolute nuts

Look at that interior!

The funny thing for me is that I did a 180 against the grain. I didn't like the FT-1 but I fancy the MKV a bit. I remember when a co-worker first showed me the FT-1, breathlessly exclaiming about how he was in love. I took one look and said "Whatever... nobody's gonna build that!" I then proceeded to point out very single item that I predicted wouldn't make it into production. Guess what? They didn't. Unfortunately for him, everything I pointed out happened to be the exact same bits he loved about the FT-1.
Now 4 years later, he's a full-time MKV hater, and I'm considering buying. Weird how life works.

No1 even driven the full production version but haters already know Toyota failed because X things are not like they wanted in their little heads, based on photos in the net. I love how ppl complain about BMW engine in A90, but at the same time they don't say a word about BMW V12 in McLaren F1 and modified Nissan engine in McLaren P1/720s/Senna etc. OR why it's not GTR competitor for 100k, so instead letting more ppl afford it let's make it another car for minority and rest will have a wallpaper on the desktop. Pathetic, really.

I won't judge dynamic of A90 before I see some leigt tests + drive it myself. If I did act like those sheeps I'd never buy 86.

Also, how majority can be right if majority can't even drive well? And they wanna talk steering feedback or balance? Don't even make me start talking about performance/sport driving. At least half ppl on my local track can't hit an apex or don't have any idea when to brake, despite driving M2's, GTI's etc. So imagine average commentator that drives either 20yr old audi b5 or a Citroen Cactus :banghead::banghead::banghead:

This happens to a lot of people here I've noticed. They find themselves in a downward spiral of negativity and before they know it, they've got no purpose but to go on this bizarre campaign against a car that none of us have driven. Why? who knows.

Just finished up a video about the full development story of the Supra. Gonna post it soon! This took a longgggggg time to research and produce, but should hopefully present the facts of the BMW-Toyota partnership in a neutral, factual manner.

Makes sense. You mentally disassociated yourself from the FT-1 with the excuse that nobody's going to build that and reinforced on the items that would make it. You've got instant gratification and now feel more partial to the car.

Aside from the FT-1 scaled up version, a lot of Toyota and Lexus' came from Calty very close to the concepts (interior included).

What I meant is that Toyota delivered this to us but it's not a home run.
