Makes sense. You mentally disassociated yourself from the FT-1 with the excuse that nobody's going to build that and reinforced on the items that would make it. You've got instant gratification and now feel more partial to the car.
.
Nice piece of backyard psychoanalysis but... no. I've simply spent long enough following cars from concept to showroom to know what survives and what doesn't.

You sure? Because people who've driven it think otherwise
I'm waiting for real reviews from Chris Harris or Matt Farah; not an invite only pre-party review.

Haha. You have to love the car you're buying so that's all that matters. What parts of the concept did you critic that didn't make it into production?

I agree with you on Chris Harris. However, even if I were on fire, I wouldn't care about Matt Farah's opinion, even it was about where the nearest fire extinguisher was at.

I've spent a portion of my career in the manufacturing sector. Since then I have been fascinated by the way things are built. So when I look at a concept car I think to myself "how could I mass produce that car?" I start thinking about where the parting-lines on molds would have to go. How many stamping passes would be needed to shape the sheet metal? Can that be cast, then machine finished? On and on.
With something like the FT-1 I knew at a glance it was hand built, and could only be hand built. Specifically it was things like: depth and breadth of the side scoops, nope. Mirrors, nope. Rear vents, no. Active-aero, and transparent hood section... depends on the price point. Seamless nearly one piece front end, nope. Interior? Don't make me laugh.

One last item that cements my positive thoughts about the car is the personal involvement of Akio. He is a bona-fide car guy. Maybe not born that way, he took the path of learning as much as he could from his test drivers and engineers. He wants you to feel like you are buying the fruits of all the labor he undertook, throughout his entire life, to give you this monument of a car. This is his Mona Lisa. I trust him and this car is going to deliver the goods in a very personal and sophisticated way.

I got blind faith in this car coz Tada is a head designer. He just came, took subaru platform and made 86 handle like front engined Cayman. And he said all experience from 86 was carried over to Supra so... how can it fail :)

Blind faith is not always a good thing... that's how you get snatched up by Baba Yaga. LOL ;)

The funny thing for me is that I did a 180 against the grain. I didn't like the FT-1 but I fancy the MKV a bit. I remember when a co-worker first showed me the FT-1, breathlessly exclaiming about how he was in love. I took one look and said "Whatever... nobody's gonna build that!" I then proceeded to point out very single item that I predicted wouldn't make it into production. Guess what? They didn't. Unfortunately for him, everything I pointed out happened to be the exact same bits he loved about the FT-1.
Now 4 years later, he's a full-time MKV hater, and I'm considering buying. Weird how life works.
I actually also don't "love" the FT1, depending on the angle of the picture, something always seems off about it to me, maybe it's stunning in real life, but in pictures it's either off looking or alright looking. never that amazing.

my biggest problem with it is it’s size. It is a fairly massive car and judging by the shape it looks like it would be terrible practicality wise.

Looking forward to reviews by Doug, a GT reviewer (don't care who but would rather not have the hammster), and Chris Harris. Can't think of anyone else.

Harris doesn't have an ounce of negativity in him
Also,James May is excited to buy it
lol yeah he does. He's just "bloody" honest as I watched his 992 review.

 Matt Farah is hilarious, very blunt.

Those are similar things that I've also noticed when I saw both FT-1's cars in person (Irvine' Cars n Coffee and Pebble Beach's concept lawn) as well. It had a very nice wide and low presence of an exotic especially since both concepts were surrounded by other exotics. At Irvine, there was a Ferrari F-40 and at Pebble, a McLaren P1 GTR several feet away.

There were some key areas that those who paid attention to detail would be able to differentiate concept from production. Calty and Toyota are pretty good at making concepts->production look similar; Celica, FJ, XB, LC etc so many thought that the new Supra would be a GT sized car like the LC.

-The front bumper nose cone height and protrusion would not make the cut due to NHTSA and DOT regulations. Dual cooling fans for what?! Looked odd like the pack of a PC.
-The clear hood was very Corvette C7. Though it was cool, I was hoping for it to get cut.
-The active rear spoiler has been the staple of the 911 since the 964 so I can see that being the next generation to the fixed wing on the MKIV. The rear resembled a TVR Griffith and I thought that car's rear didn't look that good.

-If the F430 has problems with the mirrors breaking off, so will the FT-1. I knew those weren't making the cut.
-Dual exhaust... why!! Go single exit or maybe dual exhaust but center exit
-Wasn't partial to the slanted roofline, very GTR ish.
-I liked the FT-1 interior esp the Graphite FT-1's interior with the saddle wood leather. It looked every bit like a Lexus interior
