Regarding relaiblity - does any1 know if same quality standards and super exact testing were applied to B48 2.0 engine, like with B58 3.0?

The 48 and 58 are basically identical other than cylinder count, so I assume any changes made to one carried over to the other.

Hm... cool :) Tbh, I wait more for 2.0 in manual in 2020-2021, just because of the mass. That + some engine tuning = ~320hp in a 1395kg 50:50 car :) Sure the 3.0 will be much faster but prefer the "lighter" feel.
So I hope it will be as reliable as B58 :) But that 2.0 sound... meh.

Will the 2-liter version/s be a better buy than the 3.0-liter variant? How is that so? Isnā€™t it Toyota collaborated with BMW because of the inline-6? Inline-4 is just for markets with stricter emission regulations, as well as Euro and Asian markets, isnā€™t it?

inline 4 is the B48 which is literally the exact same motor with 4 cylinders.

Inline-4 is simply a B58 minus 2 cylinders. But of course, nothing could replace the balance of an inline-6; just that itā€™s heavier. But Iā€™ll go with the B58 since thatā€™s the main reason of the collaboration.

I believe the B58 will be more reliable than the B48 due to its larger displacement which can handle more heat and load than the B48. The B48 may be more fuel efficient; but in the long run, the B58 is clearly more reliable.

OP, or mods should add a poll. I'm curious to see how people from other markets will reply.

99% 6cyl, case closed :D if I wasnt so obsessed with low weight after driving Gt86/MX5/S2000/A110 I'd go for 3.0 too.

woulda been cool if there was a 5cyl version of this engine. 4 cyl sound crap? i6 too heavy? well here ya go kids! 5cyl! Imagine that. Baby v10 sounds, also better weight and handling. i5 would be a win-win to those who can't decide between the two variants of the car.

Now Toyota would have to go for a joint venture with Audi for that!

I don't know how this would go down with the fans, already there is some backlash, lol!!!

Anyways this was never the supra philosophy.

Supra culture and heritage was always about the inline 6, yes i know its not the 2jz or 3 jz no more. But this is what we have for the time being. So lets welcome the product and see what it does.

I hear it makes you dizzy with its high G's! :)

Yes, itā€™s about the inline-6, and the turbo, as well as the manual transmission, that made the A80 MkIV, particularly with a 2JZ-GTE engine, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, into a legend. Nothing more, nothing less. :D
