True...but the GT4 isn't going to have the flat 4 from the 718, but rather a flat 6!
My GT4 is very hard to tune. I can’t imagine the 718 variant being much easier.

so.... Toyota is only now just saying, "we are going to build the car the way everyone actually wanted - in 2 years time"..... really?.. they are planning that Now??

Why does this have to be a special version? Why not just make all of them like this in the first place? why waste all the time and effort on a gen1, with all its criticisms, only to fix them in 2 years with what should be standardised stuff? why not just put the damn manual option in now, and load it up to 400? why does that need to be special? why cant the GRMN one be say, a street legal 550hp GT4 race ready version?

Now no one is going to want a gen 1 - who would want an auto lower power version knowing a vastly better version is around the corner?, those able to get their deposits back will likely to just postpone for the GRMN, and people stuck with the gen 1 have to face devaluation problems before they can get the proper version. Perhaps maybe they can strike a deal for a buy-back agreement with Toyota to upgrade to the GRMN. I'm both impressed and disappointed with Toyota at the same time.
Ever heard of the Nonturbo MKIV? Or the R34 GTT? Maybe even just a normal C7 Vette? I could go on, but this is not a special situation.

It’s not a replacement. It’s a different version of the same car. It will be faster, and more expensive. Think GT3 versus base 911.

As Toyota’s in-house tuning department, Gazoo also has further plans for the Supra. A faster, harder Supra GRMN is allegedly under development, possibly using parts from the GT4 racer.

Tada-san told us that a GRMN version has to happen, which for anyone not quite taken by the base GR Supra should be good news. Let’s just hope they stuff the S55 into it…

yeah, it's not a replacement at all... it's also going to be quite a bit more money and will have absolute emphasis on track performance

it's just like the majority of other manufacturers do with the high end models: GTR Nismo, Cayman GT4, Shelby GT350, C7 Z06, etc

the car was never planned to be much more than 400ps (although that's not a set number; more of a median)

plenty of folks will have cars that already outperform the GRMN by the time it comes out when it comes to all out performance, and Tada knows that. Some folks want to purchase something that's already been modified by the factory with bespoke parts, warranty, abides by the original engineering goals, and is able to be financed.

that said, it will certainly have more than few tricks up its sleeve as you might expect.

The Germans have been doing this for decades and are far worse now. Lol.

They got my attention when they said "manual"!!

So is this the GT4 concept and is it coming to the U.S?
