TRD has just unveiled a production lineup of new carbon fiber aero parts for the 2020 Toyota GR Supra in Japan, designed to improve its aerodynamics – and let’s face it, more importantly, to satisfy the need to customize its looks.

The lightweight material is used on the front spoiler, side skirts, side door garnish, rear side spoiler and trunk spoiler, to go with a set of new forged aluminum wheels. As expected, these are the same parts we saw back in February on the TRD GR Supra Performance Line Concept.

Dialing up the aggressiveness

Real world performance aside, it’s safe to say that the GR Supra looks more menacing with TRD’s carbon fiber bits strapped on, as if it belongs on a track more than it does in a driveway.

In a sense, that’s true. The front spoiler for example is a three-piece unit and its design helps increase downforce and reduce lift at high speeds. It also lowers the ride height by 14 mm (0.55 inches) at the front, while the side skirts do the same, only by 4 mm (0.15 inches) compared to stock.

Then there’s the side door garnish, which is meant to smoothly direct airflow to the rear end of the Supra, where you’ll find the carbon fiber diffuser fins and the trunk lid spoiler, the former reducing ride height by about 24 mm (0.94 inches).

Last but not least, you have the black 19-inch twin-dual spoke forged aluminum wheels, which are identical to the ones introduced on the previously mentioned concept.

While these parts have been initially released in Japan, it’s probably only a matter of time before TRD gives them to the rest of the world too.

As of right now, engine performance remains the same, which means that the Supra’s BMW-sourced powertrains (in Japan) continue to produce 194 and 258 HP from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-pot, and 335 HP from a 3.0-liter inline-six turbo.

This looks like the BMW tax is slowing starting to set in. I hope they have UV inhibitors or else that beautiful CF will start to match that yellow exterior paint.

Ordered A91 edition Supra
It's not going to be that much here in the States. Different economies. Nobody would pay that. The wheels might go for 4k. The CF trim pieces maybe for 1k to 1500 each or so. I would also expect a black FRP/plastic option of the same item.

Expecting customers to pay 20k for cosmetics alone and no change in performance is some fine crack. Please pass that dealer's info.

On the other note, the yellow and white supra with the TRD parts look so good. But I'd bet the aftermarket does a better job at less of a cost.

This is way more ridiculous than BMW tax. M performance carbon bumper lip for an M4 is only $1,300. They are trying to charge $1600 more than BMW would for a lip. WTF are they on?
