Tuned B58 according to my friend. Makes sense that BMW would want to keep it own sauce, and given the power goal the regular B58 is good to go. It's very much still in development though.

Some cool transmission and diff stuff planned as well, but I'll shut up lol.

the car was never planned to be much more than 400ps (although that's not a set number; more of a median)

plenty of folks will have cars that already outperform the GRMN by the time it comes out when it comes to all out performance, and Tada knows that. Some folks want to purchase something that's already been modified by the factory with bespoke parts, warranty, abides by the original engineering goals, and is able to be financed.

that said, it will certainly have more than few tricks up its sleeve as you might expect.
So would ~450 hp be an unrealistic power figure for the Supra GRMN?

yeah, it's not a replacement at all... it's also going to be quite a bit more money and will have absolute emphasis on track performance

it's just like the majority of other manufacturers do with the high end models: GTR Nismo, Cayman GT4, Shelby GT350, C7 Z06, etc
When you say "quite a bit more money," do you have any kind of idea what that may mean? Are you believing like $10k-$20k more or are you thinking this will push the car really close to $100k? Hopefully, if it's based on the B58, I'm hoping more like $10k-$20k more.

Also, are you at liberty to say if the rendering shown in the first post is close to what we may expect?

Are these the “special” cars supposedly mentioned by performancesound on here?

I would think 30k-ish more, hopefully less. Look at the RC-F and RC-F track edition as an example.

My hope is that since they've benchmarked the Porsche Cayman GT4 which does offer a manual they'll also release a manual GRMN. A factory manual on the regular GR's would be ideal too for those who won't be able to afford the lower volume exclusivity.

Ballpark figure was $85k iirc

Yeah, both that and the 86 GRMN follow a very similar price bump (differences aside)

I was never really sure what PS was referencing with that stuff, but I have to assume it was the same thing unless his source was speaking to actual race cars being sold to teams.

i absolutely love the A90's design. I find that GRMN front bumper hideous, new Avalon kinda hideous. Whats up with toyota and the "gaping fishmouth" design language? i certainly hope the normal car's bumper can be retrofitted without much trouble.

AFAIK, S58=B58 + air-to-air intercooler and bigger turbo's, so no biggie......

since this is a GRMN car, i guess a manual is confirmed then.... even the auto-only Mark X got a manual for its GRMN version.

diff stuff...mechanical 1.5 way perhaps?! .... oh wait..in the dsport q&a interview; Tada-san said he would like to have some sort of a "dial" to control the diff. aggressiveness if i understood him correctly.. would be killer to have it go 1/1.5/2 way by just flipping a switch in the cabin!

Toyota Supra GRMN Among Additional Planned Versions Of The Sports Car
At the launch of the new A90 Toyota GR Supra, chief engineer Tetsuya Tada made a commitment to exciting future derivatives

The new ‘A90’ Toyota GR Supra doesn’t exactly tear up the sports car rule book, but for anyone wanting something a little more extreme, we have some good news. This version is just a starting point.

“If we had kept this and this alone, then, of course, it would be forgotten in an instant,” Supra chief engineer Tetsuya Tada told Car Throttle at the launch of the car in Madrid, adding, “We feel that it is important and imperative to give you updates and upgrades every year, otherwise there is no meaning for introducing a sports car.”

Asked if that could include a hardcore GRMN version, Tada-san said: “Yes, of course, we will have to at some stage make that happen.” He has hinted before that such a car could be on the way, and now it’s looking all-but-certain.

The Yaris GRMN is so far the only car to receive the full Gazoo Racing Masters of Nurburgring treatment. It was created from a regular, rather slow Yaris, so it’s not exactly easy to work out how a GRMN conversion would work on an already fast and competent car like the GR Supra.

A more focused suspension setup seems likely, however, as does an increase in power. Could the latter be achieved by switching out the stock Supra’s B58 BMW straight-six for the M2 Competition’s S55? Probably not, but we can but hope.

Speaking of the BMW parts that make up most of the GR Supra - a hotly-debated subject during its launch week - Tada-san also gave an interesting insight into a surprisingly late change made to the platform.

About a year and a half ago, it turned out Toyota’s efforts to reduce the car’s weight had gone somewhat too far. “It turned out that we made the rear so light that it disrupted the balance of the fore-aft weight distribution,” he said, adding, “So we had to go back to BMW to negotiate pulling the engine 50mm more rearwards - that way we could get the optimal [50/50] weight distribution”.

BMW did, in the end, agree. This will have been after the point the Z4 and Supra teams originally parted ways, so it seems the split perhaps wasn’t as complete as we’d previously thought.

This is interesting to read and contradicts the whole BMW and Toyota parting ways in 2014.

PferdestÀrke? Metric "horse strength." Not quite a 1:1 ratio between "brake" HP and PS but close enough for gubment work.
