If thatā€™s the case, then the C8 will be the very first mid-engined Corvette; since all previous 7 Corvettes are front-engined. Is this move a good thing?

What I mean is, how would die-hard Corvette owners and fans react to this major move by Chevrolet? :hmm:
I think it's a mistake personally. GM has always had a hard on to make a mid engined sports car, but it didn't have to be the vette. That's a massive departure from all previous gens, and frankly, what's it going to get them? I personally much prefer front engine rwd with rear transaxle. I've always disliked how mid engine rwd cars loose front end grip so much under heavy acceleration and require a little trail braking to get the front end to really hook. 50/50 weight balance is so much more natural feeling. There is a reason Toyota went FR rear trans for the LFA, they could have gone with any layout they wanted with that cars budget.

I mean vettes were known for being spin prone before, it might be a mistake pushing their fan base to mid engine especially with that much power. Ever do a pass on 2nd gen mr2 carfaxes? Literally at least half of all the remaining ones have salvage titles, it's crazy common.

What's New: The long-awaited mid-engine Corvette is finally here. After years of rumors, spy shots, leaks, and speculation, Chevrolet will finally peel the camo off this July. When it does, we expect to find a dual-overhead-cam V-8 under the rear glass with a pair of turbochargers driving the rear wheels through a manual or dual-clutch automatic transaxle. Multiple power outputs are expected courtesy of various displacements, with both 4.2-liter and 5.5-liter versions to be fitted. An all-new electrical architecture will feature top-of-the-line sensors and computers for performance and handling enhancement, but you'll no doubt be able to turn them all off, too. Inside, Chevrolet has gone upscale with a classy, driver-focused interior featuring premium materials and a digital instrument cluster. Although base-model Corvettes will start at about $70,000, higher-performance models will quickly shoot up in price to cover both the development cost and the improvements in technology, performance, and comfort. But they should still remain relatively attainable.

Ex-Corvette Engineer Isnā€™t Sold On The Idea Of A Mid-Engine ā€˜Vette

https://www.carscoops.com/2019/06/ex-corvette-engineer-isnt-sold-on-the-idea-of-a-mid-engine-vette/
"He cites the perfect 50/50 weight distribution of the C7 as one reason why it handles so well and says that the rear-biased weight distribution of the C8 will upset the vehicleā€™s balance and likely make it prone to understeer."

Exactly. People don't seem to realize the primary performance benefit of a mid engined layout is just weight savings, from being able to be rwd and use a transaxle all in one diff/tranny with no driveshaft. As soon as you veer away from 50:50 in either direction, handling suffers.

They can put power down like mad too in a straight line, but that's a manageable problem on FR.
