Where? I'm genuinely ignorant on this point-- very excited if true.
Well, my 3UR is making 1045WHP and it's 100% open deck. It has some headroom left but it was my daily and 1000hp was my target so we stopped at that.

Papadakis' 2AR is open deck (as far as I know and found online) and it's pushing 1007WHP out of a 4 cylinder. (250hp/cylinder or 370hp per liter).

I'm pretty confident a modern closed deck inline 6 won't have an issue holding 170hp per cylinder.

Ok, I need some insight here (not a car guy).

IIRC, the C&D dyno testers said they ran the test in 5th gear since they couldn't get the car to redline and got the results that were posted. The MT guys said they ran the car in 6th gear to achieve the 1:1 ratio. Does that mean they got the car to redline in 6th?

My question is, which test is more valid? Does it really make a difference? Does the 1:1 ratio provide the most accurate numbers?

I don't know enough about Dyno's to figure out the "magic behind the curtain". Guess it's time to search the Interwebs.

Gear ratios effect dyno numbers, yes. Usually the higher the gear the more power it reads but not by much (5-10 HP variation between 4th and 5th gear on my GT86).

Torque on the other hand should behave the same as after all the dyno roller speed is factored into the equation regardless and that speed is changing with the gear you're in. I haven't paid much attention to torque until now but seeing how the A90 makes +420 ft.lbs on one dyno and 390 on another with almost the same hp numbers makes me think otherwise. But I would say the MT dyno numbers are more realistic since they are in 1:1 gear ratio and they make more sense IMO.

A dyno is a tool. Not the end all, be all metric in measuring hp/tq. Wanna see what the car really puts down, get the car on a 1/4mile, 1/2 mile, 1 mile and see the times and trap speeds. Or do acceleration runs...0-60, 0100, 60-130, etc. Plus you gotta factor in things like weather, atmospheric pressure, sea level, type of fuel being used, and other factors when taking a car to a dyno. Plus different dyno's will read different. Take one car to one shop and make power and then take it to another shop and watch it lose or gain hp. Take 2 of the same exact stock car and each one will yield different results. Take 2 cars with the same exact mods and those will also put out different numbers.

One thing is for sure though, that advertised hp/tq of the car is most definitely underrated from the factory. But then again, that is usually the case with BMW turbocharged engines.

You can't compare them 1 on 1, absolutely. But it is the same car in the end and they both use the same everything mechanically and electronically. Disregarding raw power completely and comparing HP vs TQ is interesting to say the least. Different dynos give different numbers but the concept is the same in the end.

Out of all the dyno runs I have witnessed, if two dynos give almost the same HP figure, TQ is usually not far off. I would say never more than 25 at most all things considered. (ex. 400/420 vs 415/430)

For Both C&D and MT to get about 330-340hp at the wheels but a difference of 40 ft.lbs in torque is definitely interesting. Gear ratios usually don't skew dyno measurements that much either. My guess is either heat soak effecting low end torque on the MT dyno or different calibrations per gear. Regardless, the MT seem more in line with other B58 cars on other dynos (again, not raw power but HP/TQ ratio) hence my previous statement that it's more representative IMO.
