Flat... they have no power here, at all. At the average of 3% hp loss per 1000ft, that engine loses 40hp at my altitude of 6500ft. 160hp car is not fast at all... but our market doesn’t mean shit to Toyota. That’s why I’m excited to see a turbo Toyota again! Really excited. I hope the turbo can be boosted up but able to stay in efficiency range for 6500 feet to make up for the lost power
I see your point. Especially if you had many turbo cars before, 86 is definitely underwhelming in its general usage.
I was happy with my 86 when I had it because it handled so well and I had plenty of backroads to enjoy around where I live.
Only reason why I sold my FR-S was because my commute became 90 mile drive each way and my FR-S just sat in my driveway for over a year without much usage. I supercharged it (With Harrop kit) and tried to use it as daily but it is not a good long freeway drive car even with stock suspension.
I likely wouldn’t be using the GR Supra for daily commute, but even if I did, it would fair much better than my supercharged FR-S for sure.

I read on some BMW forums that the M340i with the "same" B58 as the Supra adjusts boost to keep the power out put consistent. Some report their stock cars make 11-12 psi while others 15-16 psi depending on the weather and altitude. I like this idea especially if the engine is capable of handling it. It also means for us at lower elevations or colder climate can manually bump up the boost and not worry about it.

Random thoughts:

I think the A90 base 3.0 weighs at least 100lbs less than the Premium, here's why.

The 3.0 grade has a 6.5-inch display with Bluetooth and iPod capability, as well as Alcantara seats. Navigation and JBL Audio will be an available option for an additional $2,460.

The 3.0 Premium grade will feature an upgraded 8.8-inch wide-format touchscreen display with Navigation, Supra Connect telematics services, wireless Apple CarPlay, a premium 12-speaker JBL audio system, wireless phone charging and a color Head-Up Display. The 3.0 Premium grade will also feature heated, leather-trimmed seats.

So:
  • the larger 8.8" touchscreen is more or less a wash on weight
  • I assume the the telematics service uses existing sensors present on both cars, but this could be about 15-20lbs of weight as well
  • 12 speaker JBL audio and nav would absolutely weight a decent amount, and I'd say 50-70lbs minimum which is likely an understatement
  • the wireless charger and HUD modules and wiring are likely few pounds between them
  • the heated 12-way adjustable leather seats have to weigh quite a bit, and if both the driver and passenger seats are the same may be over 100lbs combined
Now, you can option the 3.0 up a bit, but barring that this would lead me to the conclusion that while the 3.0 Premium may be 3397lbs (at least in the US), that the 3.0 is quite a bit less (possibly up to 150lbs +/-). The GR slides from EU and Japan listed a curb weight of 1490kg, and this intrigues me along the same lines of thinking...

I would take the alcantara seats over full leather all day long.
Bigger screen, useless...
12 speaker, nice. I've take a bit of wright for some nice tunes

There's some weight to be lost for sure. The seats primarily.

But what really makes it get to that much power? Tune... easily done with what we have now I think

True...the power will be easily attainable with a tune, but I'm hoping the GRMN is more of a full package in terms of proper suspension, tweeks in the active differential, weight reduction, some aero, lighter wheels, proper use of these vents ppl keep crying about, and bigger breaks.
Considering this and how serious Toyota is about the car's 50:50 weight distribution, I think the GRMN MKV will be an overall great car from the factory and an even better platform to tweak...but that's just my opinion. Of course the standard MKV will still make an unbelievable clean slate to work on, and is still a bargain in comparison to the standard Cayman.
Not sure if @A70TTR can comment on my thoughts here!

@A70TTR, sorry if this has been asked, but were the earlier rumors of the 4 banger version be labeled "Celica" true? If yes, why did Toyota change their mind?

That was a rumor even within the company and Tada did consider different names for both the 4 and 6 cylinder versions.

As to why they didn't do it, I think there likely wasn't enough differentiation between them aside from engine (would sort of be odd these days) and also the fact that Celica became something entirely different late 80s and forward. Plus, it's more work overall having to market two separate models and the fact that the 4cyl was designed to meet a certain target in parts of the EU/Asia...

It also ended up being a better decision for Japan, as the 4cyl became the modern replacements for SZ and SZ-R.

I do not unfortunately. I had the info for US iirc, but I don't even remember what the figure was.

Sorry if it was discussed but what about future release of more powerful versions and maybe a 6MT?

Can you verify or comment on this post by BP insider?

So, I have a request for whoever has connections in the Supra circles. Please tell those guys that all that BS by Toyota engineers about 335hp being just the right amount of power for the car was just that - BS. The 385hp version (matching the US Z4 M40i) is coming. It will be sold in the U.S. and the countries not subject to Euro emissions regulations: Korea, Japan, Russia, Gulf states.
Follow up: Someone asked when its coming?

ynguldyn;24781237 said:
Months, not years. The First Edition will be good to show off but not to own for actual performance driving. Unless you're in Europe where the same restrictions as seen with Z4 M40i will still apply.

The GRMN will be more powerful but is unlikely to be available in manual from what has been communicated.

If a manual is available, it will be in the standard car most likely.
interesting..wouldn't that be the 1st "GRMN" with an auto? :p

Yeah, that sounds odd to me. At this rate I wouldn't expect them to even put a manual in the base Supra either. The manual in the GRMN was supposed to give us hope that there would be a manual in the GR Supra.
