You beat me to it. That is very interesting and disappointing if it's accurate...

It makes sense. Just looking at the Supra, it sits pretty high, for a 50.9 inch height car. The engine is very tall, meaning the design had to be extended upward to accommodate. For example, compared to the 86, it appears the entire engine bonnet height is greater. To maintain proportion balance, everything else had to pushed upward, slightly. All of this moves the center of gravity upwards.

This is the one thing about the Supra design I'm not crazy about. I'd rather the car sit lower, having a height of around 48 inches. But perhaps this was impossible because of the engine..

that's disappointing indeed, wonder how Toyota calculated the CoG then? I have to mention that the 86's stock tires are 2" shorter than the A90's.

Could be tested with 18s? but I am sad that Toyota claimed better CoG than 86s. Lets wait to see if Toyota has something to say.

With all due respect to Tada-san, I think a lot of his information gets lost in translation. There are still a lot of stuff on the MKV that I call b/s on; this being one of them.

The C&D article says that Toyota did indeed test with 18" wheels. Not sure if that makes that huge of a difference.

I don't really care too much, but it takes some credibility from Toyota and the development of the car. This was one of their boasting points they plastered everywhere, along the rigidity thing. Which could be questioned too.

Is it going to deter buyers this late in the game trying to get LE cars? Most likely not. Will many people care? Probably not. Just disappointing. But, I would like to see Toyota respond with their calculated COG height.

Agreed. I was also wondering about the rigidity, after hearing this. Rigidity is not something that anyone (that I'm aware of) tests, so any claim could be made about it.

they thought the difference in mass was insignificant, but lowering the car -With shorter tires- will lower the CoG too.... but... JDM 18's are 2.1 inches taller than the 86 tires, even a tiny bit taller than the 19's.... (275/35R19 @ 26.6", 275/40R18 @26.7" for A90 vs 215/45R17 @24.6" for the 86)

I wonder how each result was achieved. With my backgrounds, I'm skeptical of claims from both sides. Unfortunately, field measurement of CG is not a simple matter requiring a custom-made equipment.

In practical application, an average Supra owner doesn't know and doesn't care about the difference in CG height between a Supra and a BRZ-FRS-GT86. Even in an autocross application, I would adapt to the hardware and make the best of what is available. Nice information to know, but, no I don't care about the difference in CG.

Side note. GM tests and measures chassis rigidity in both torsional and bending.
