i been following you for years. just a question not an attack. is the 4 banger still coming to the US, or has that been canned?
They built over 30 pre-production US 30i's, but the last one was back in January. The chances are getting slimmer but I think it's too early to make the final call.

This was still a firm no as of the last time I asked around April/May.

Thanks for the update. With respect to the Bimmergods, they haven't always been 100% correct.

Didn't Scott say the Z/Supra was going to use a carbon fiber chassis. - False
There was also another one that use to post on here that said it was going to have a transaxle and scaled down Highlander mirrors. - False

Out or curiosity, it seems the bellhousing bolt pattern between the auto and manual on the M240i is different. (auto is the same as zf8 in A90)

Can anyone confirm interchangeability between the two?

I can't find the manual Z4 in part listing's to determine the bolt pattern on the B58 TU

There is no manual 6-cylinder Z4.

i spoke with their development team in the UK today

More cars are going to be manufactured now, however no manuals are on the horizon for at least the next 4 years (supposedly)
Four years? If that is true then it would likely be cutting right to the latter end of the window when a manual 2.0 and 3.0 can be offered at all depending on where tightening emission and fuel economy regulations are at that point.

I hope that fellow is just in the dark like the rest of us.

But if so it means that a BMW M2 Competition 6-speed manual is the alternative... which while also a great car by itself would be a shame because it’s not the Supra MKV.

But it does have a manual option, so...

We’re barely into the first year’s sales. Toyota likes being tight lipped either way and they are well aware that the manual demand is there considering this is a halo performance car and an irrational and passionate vehicle purchase.

I still expect them to release a manual later. If a new Corolla hatchback just got a brand new manual and the 86 has a manual their not-GTR-competing Supra will have one for at least a few production years.

To do otherwise and not capitalize on the additional hype for a manual Supra 2.0 (Euro/JDM) and 3.0 (world) would be foolish on Toyota’s part and I’m sure they know this.

The whole point of releasing this particular car is to drum up “fun” and “driver excitement” for the brand by going to great lengths to do so.

The Heritage Parts program for the A70 and A80 while demanded by owners, was also a part of this thinking I am sure.

After all their effort so far it just wouldn’t make sense to not release a final manual transmission gas-turbo-only Supra before electrification begins to take hold.

Four years?
This is yet another aspect of A90 where the reality of its BMW roots must be taken into account. With very few exceptions, BMW operates on a seven year model cycle, with model facelift done at the four year mark. Any future Z4 and Supra development will remain joined at the hip, so if BMW runs Z4 through the usual life cycle, that's what you'll also see on the Supra side.

It should be noted that BMW's schedule of engine and transmission revisions is almost fully disconnected from model lifecycle. While they usually won't put new revisions of their engines into the models that are on their way out, everything else remains possible. Plenty of BMW models had their engine lineups significantly changed after just a year or two of production - whenever new engines or transmissions are ready, BMW puts them into all the cars that can use them. However, the lack of a manual in Z4/Supra is not the question of engineering readiness but rather a marketing decision, and those are only revisited for new models or facelifts.

I agree this is usually the case (for the trans) but I feel Toyota has greater incentive to make a manual available. I do have doubts it will happen, however.

It feels like "Toyota please make a Supra with a manual" is the new "Toyota please make a 86 with more power" - 7 years and counting and it ain't happening ! :banghead:

Good luck to those who want a manual - hope it happens for you guys.:headbang:
