Just wait for some aftermarket head covers and for someone to clean up all them spagetzies. Any engine bay could look good in all honesty. Put the cash, taste and dedication = win.
Or do a nice wire tuck.

Probably time constraints for each competition. Some of these teams know the 2jz inside out vs being relatively new to the b58. Rather race and compete with something time tested than gamble on something that they haven't had the time to do the R&D on.
That doesn't make sense though. If we the consumers are supposed to get parts for sale, they need to spend the time and R&D to develop new parts for the car. They've done that before when a new engine is introduced to the market, so why not here? I am sick of seeing 2J swaps. I want Japanese tuners to tune and develop parts for the B58. Because that's the majority of what enthusiasts wanna see and will go down that route. I doubt most street driven A90 owners are gonna swap in a 2J on their personal cars. Sure we will see them here and there, but it won't be the norm.

yeah, it's all timing - they go 2JZ because it's old as fuck and all the bugs are known and documented and there's less variables to them achieving the build date.
The B58 isn't some new engine either, It's been around for a while now.

The HKS deift car got their cars in April/may and competition in was shortly after. Not really enough time to test the engine develop parts and and test the parts on the engine. hks is still in prototyping parts. Doubt they risk damaging the b58 with the little time they had with it. No one said they werent going to do it for the b58.

I agree with @Pheonix. 2JZ swap yeah that's cool, but everyone does that now so its kind of boring?

Understand the time implications but it would have been impressive and interesting if they actually did something with the B58. Still waiting on that.

Yeah but the Japanese need to get on board since it's a Japanese car. I mean they have Japanese tuners such as ASSIST tuning BMW's...http://assist-kyoto.co.jp/

To HKS and others, its a whole new engine to develop for. They developed and tune parts for new engines all the time when they are released. Cars like the 350/370z, FRS/BRZ/86, GTR...what makes this any different? Those cars had brand new engines to these companies at the time. HKS never developed parts for them and yet started prototyping things like exhausts and coilovers and moved onto to serious development later (like they are doing with the Supra...new coils and exhaust already developed and testing). All they gotta do is crack the ECU, offer a reflash, throw on a turbo kit, downpipe, exhaust, intercooler, paired with their Racing Suction kit filter, and there you have it. A well balanced car tuned by a legendary company like HKS.
In theory, it sounds easy but a few things you must remember.

The drift season has started, this means these teams only had about 6 months to go from a completely unknown platform to a full competition drift car. To do this requires a lot of chassis R&D so that they can get the insane angle and controllability needed.

This means that they have to spend limited time and money on all aspects of the build including the engine. The engine itself uses a very complicated encryption protocol that took other companies that specialize in BMW ECUs about 3 years to crack.

HKS would have had to start from nothing. In this case it would have been unfeasible to have the car done likely within a year or two, much less 6 months.

I am not talking about a full on competition drift car. I wanna see them tune a regular street car with a B58. Or tune it for the track.

Dude, take the pills. B58 isn't 20yo yet. People throw in 2J's because of the insane amount of shit developed for it available from get-go. Early guests in the house gets last night's servings because fresh ones are still in the oven. Don't like last night's leftovers? Suck it up and wait. Blue balled isn't anyone's cup of tea but it's the one we got. Still unaccepting? Contact HKS and hand them several thou plus some more, who knows maybe you'd hit the goldmine. You're looping too much you're actually starting to be a big bitch about it. Shut up and wait or take action.

Language buddy. Watch it. He's just saying what he thinks.

My 2 cents is this. The Supra is extremely new. Toyota wants manufacturers to have fun and go crazy with this car as much as they can. But the thing is that the people that they're giving the Supra to are not particularly familiar with the engine yet and in the case of HKS or Daigo Saito, they have to partake in events and races respectively not much after receiving the car from Toyota. Thus they stick to the tried and true 2JZ for their outings at shows and in races in the case of HKS or Daigo Saito. But soon I wouldn't even be surprised one bit if we see those same companies and people tuning the hell out of the B58 for future Supra projects once the deadlines are more relaxed.

You did not clarify that you meant a B58 at all. I assumed you were talking about the drift car this thread is about. HKS has a “street” Supra in development currently.

Did your dad forget to piss in your cereal this morning? Calm your tits kid. I am just saying that Japanese tuners always are able to tune brand new engines when introduced in new sports cars in their country. The Supra is no different. I get they don't have experience with the B58 since no other Japanese car has it, but now it's available, it shouldn't stop them in developing performance parts and tunes for it.

Yeah that's my bad for not being clear. We should hopefully see more street tuned builds from Japanese companies soon once the car is launched and they get their hands on it. As a competition drift car, sure go ahead with a 2J since the budget allows for it. But as a street driven car, hopefully we see some legendary builds as well. The car is just full of possibilities.
