Or... lack there of.

I need a new car by August. I placed an order with Longo in January. That was early enough to get me to #28 on their list.

I've called about 30 dealers in three different states trying to get my name down for a Launch, or even just to get more information about ordering a regular model. Every turn is a $10k markup, or a total lack of knowledge from the dealers on how to order this car. The Launch Editions come out in 2 weeks.. the regular models in 4. The general ignorance and huge pain in the ass it has been trying to find someone who will just sell me a car at MSRP has really soured this whole buying experience and my feelings toward this car and honestly has me considering other options now.

Anyone else feel the same way or have I just been unlucky?

I will say this, Toyota is handling this launch much differently than BMW does. This may come down to the way both companies handle orders -- I think an abnormal amount of BMWs are built-to-order compared to other brands, so they are probably better setup to accept orders on new models.

I also think Toyota is doing this launch in a particular way to maybe tease out demand (any limitations are being artificially set). Limited number of "launch edition" cars for July 22 and then delays and lots of uncertainty about the availability of other models beyond that. This really isn't what I'd call a widely "available" car until the last 3-4 months of 2019. So in other words, if you want a Supra before then, I think your experience is inline with reality. This is a frustrating vehicle to buy right now.

I understand that this vehicle is "limited." However with a month out there is no dealer information on how to even put down an order for a regular edition model. This is a "limited model" so "build to order" really should be a thing. And don't even get me started on the black-only interiors.

This is in stark comparison to our UK counterparts who have payment info and breakdowns in their threads. Toyota USA has really been dropping the ball on this and I've been finding myself searching for used Alfa Giulia Quads more and more often (2018's going for 60k now)

It's the nature of such a vehicle with a projection of lower production number. If you needed a car by August and unwilling to pay a mark-up, a Supra would unlikely be a good choice. In my local area and at this point, getting in line for a LE at MSRP is impossible.

Come to Canada we dont have the launch edition but our fully loaded 3.0 is cheaper than the US and dealers arent allowed to charge over MSRP.

LOL same here. You find out the dealer cost (invoice price?) I only have a generic Phantom Gray premium (Dirvers assist pkg) MSRP price on my paperwork with no breakdowns.
Same pretty sure that's all they have now. no accessories lil PPF added yet. But Canadian model is the fully loaded. No other trims

What about taxes? It probably would not make sense to import it

You guys also get the red interior option. Seems like an overall better process.

Sounds nice! Lol.

Getting a few calls back from dealers saying the cars are now special order with an 8-10 week build time. But, worryingly, nothing like that from Longo. Anyone hear anything like this?

Also really enjoying all the pre-sold cars that are getting posted on cars.com. I mean... Who sells cars like that? This entire process blows.

Toyota's build/order process has always been terrible.

The Launch Editions have been allocated. The rest (who knows emoji)?? There is no order screen/process open, no information other than and anecdotal September/Fall time frame.

Trust me, we would love to be able to give you accurate information, availability, ETAs, etc. But we can't. It's just as frustrating for me as it is you.
