But how much cheaper would an installation be if a pattern existed? Curious what the savings would be? You have to expect a "custom" install to be considerably more expensive right?

Was just quoted $6,000 for the entire car in Suntek's matte PPF (would be for a nocturnal black LE). Is that reasonable for that level of application?

I was just told that both Suntek and Xpel have patterns for the entire car by the shop I'm looking to use to get my entire car matte'd. Xpel has the stealth option, where as Suntek has the Matte option - from what the shop told me, both basically look the same and the real difference is adhesive, but they haven't noticed any difference in quality or protection from the two. They mentioned that Suntek tends to be a little less expensive because they don't spend as much on advertising. I was quoted $6,000 for the entire car in Suntek Matte, $6,500 for the entire car in Xpel Stealth. I think I'm going to go with Suntek Matte unless there's some sort of reason that Xpel can explain to me why I should pay more for their product (put that marketing money to good use - here's your chance!). ;-)

I think I'm going to go with Xpel's XR Plus window tint, though, because it's apparently less blueish/greenish than Suntek's is according to the shop.

a90_tay,

We have quite a few options in the UK. Check out our XPEL Certified Installer locator to find one nearest you.

Supra Dupra,

Thank you for giving us a chance. While we don't like to speak to what other brands can or cannot do, what we can say is that XPEL STEALTH is by far the most popular film in the industry for matte/satin appearance. It's also the very first film to be self-healing, non-yellowing, and to be backed by a 10 year warranty. Due to its stronger adhesive, STEALTH can be a little tricker to install and that can be why some installers may favor using the other brand. That said, if longevity and overall durability/quality are what you're after, then XPEL STEALTH is the answer. Hope this info helps. If you do decide to go XPEL, once the install is finished, send us an email at [email protected] with some photos of your car and we will be more than happy to send you an XPEL Swag Pack complete with Aftercare products such as our Ceramic Boost Spray. We just need your t-shirt size and shipping information.

**In fact, we would like to extend this offer to ANYONE on this forum that has XPEL on their Supra. Send us the info above to the email we mentioned along with the URL (link) to the thread where you've posted about your XPEL experience.**

XR PLUS window tint is an incredibly high performing tint able to plus 98% of infrared heat with a lifetime transferable warranty.

Can you tell us which shop you're considering having the work done?

Getting Xpel PPF stealth and ceramic coating done on the supra. Will post pictures once I pick the car up next Saturday. I think I will be one of the first to get stealth done on a Supra.

That's what I've ultimately decided to go with as well (I'm getting Xpel stealth with their FUSION Plus ceramic coating and Xpel XR Plus window tint). Although Suntek was slightly cheaper ($5,500 vs $6,000 just for the matte-ing of the car), it sounds like there are several things that are better about Xpel, such as:
  • the warranty is transferable (so if you sell the car, the buyer will be able to bring claims as long as it is still under warranty);
  • Xpel has actual stores and not just third-party installers (although this is highly dependent on where you live; they're based in Texas and have a lot of stores down there, so if you're in that neck of the woods it sounds like a good option);
  • their product reportedly has a slightly thicker top-coat (which is the portion that is self-healing; it's apparently the urethane undercoat that turns yellow in PPFs (due to it being porous and dirt and oil getting into the pores over time and discoloring it), and Xpel is the one that invented a way to prevent this discoloration by creating a top coat, which they inadvertently discovered that it happened to have self-healing properties as well);
  • stronger adhesive (so it theoretically shouldn't peel as much, although it is slightly thicker than Suntek so perhaps the additional adhesiveness makes up for the thickness on non-flat surfaces); and
  • Xpel reportedly has many more folks in its pattern department and therefore arguably has much better fitting patterns than the competition because they put a lot of thought and time into designing their patterns (not that Suntek doesn't, but I've heard that Xpel tends to be a slightly better fit, which I think matters a lot more with matte-ing a glossy painted car since the matte won't go all the way up to edges to prevent peeling (you can request that they do, but doing so voids the warranty on such areas)).
Having said that, some of the pluses about Suntek (for anyone considering these options) are as follows:
  • it's generally less expensive;
  • it is arguably easier to install and is less prone to "stretch lines" / "ridges" than Xpel is as a result of its adhesive being not so tricky to work with;
  • if you're going with a non-matte option, it is thinner and so the true color of the paint tends to come through more.

Hey guys I am wrapping a Supra at the moment and I see so much misinformation. Just to guide you guys with this process.

@XPEL Jeff is that you?

XPEL Stealth glue is actually weaker then other films ( I have tried all). The finish comes out better and good installers will use hot filtered water to do install and it helps with stretching.

If you guys are searching for a PPF shop, check if they have wrapped Gwagons. They are the hardest cars to wrap (no bad shop can do them) or full hoods on Dodge Rams.

If you have any questions feel free to ask, I have 9 years experience, have done some crazy jobs.

Pricing wise:

Bad shops will always charge less

Precut only shops (same category as bad shops) will charge less. (Faster to do)

Average car full wrap is $6500
Difficult cars $7000
Gwagons $8000 - $10000
(Supras will soon be in Gwagons price range for anyone that can 1 piece the front bumper) matte film is impossible to 1pc front bumper and rear bumper (only if you remove tail lights / diffuser and exhaust)

Those of you putting Xpel on your hoods, how are you doing it? One shop recommended Suntek on the hood since Xpel doesn't make a big enough piece and it would force them to use two pieces. That sounds like it would not look great?

Suntek 72" film is more then enough to cover entire hood in 1 piece. Take measurements of hood *top corner point to front middle of hood for longest distance and you will see it's under 70"

I recommend laying out a 60" (width) x 68" then another sheet on other side. If you are doing striping. Otherwise you are left with having top of hood the pointy edges with 4" - 6" strip
