Anyone also notice the darker colored main caps? Are those forged aluminum, forged steel, or cast iron like the 2JZ?

The thing to note is nobody knows the long-term wear characteristics of the plasma bore. If they are as a strong and wear-resistant as OEM's make them out to be, they will likely last longer than most, if not all, high-mileage supras.
I would think 09/10 GTR owners might have an idea by now.

I don't understand how you can go to 1000HP without changing the Intercooler.
Chances of them making 1000hp with the factory intercooler are slim to none. The question becomes is what are they going to come up with? A front mount? A V-mount maybe? :hmm:

Main caps would likely be the same material as the block.
That very well might be the case. I know they usually are, but for example when you upgrade main caps, they usually are not the same material (Titan mains, etc...). I ask because the color of the main caps in the video are different than the inside of the block’s material...they are darker looking material. If the car had higher mileage I would assume used oil residue, but this motor has under 2k miles.

Okay so how are you going to change that intercooler? Because that does not look cheap nor easy. I mean when I dropped a grand for my intercooler and piping I thought that was a lot. This is going to be like 3-4 grand.

The S55 has several aftermarket intercooler available, most notably is VSRF being only $549 and no extra piping needed. 3 grand on that platform gets you a full billet unit

I don't have the metallurgy plug-in installed in my browser so can't say definitively, but those main caps certainly look like cast iron to me. Could also be steel, but impossible to say from the video (same goes for assessing power-holding..). Here is all the B58 tech doc says:

Not to sound sarcastic, but....is this a real question?

My issue with the cylinder coating is not longevity, wear resistance, etc.. If that were a concern it would have shown up by now on various platforms. Elevated cylinder pressure, heat, etc.. from more power is a lot harder on cylinder walls than say 150k miles of mixed driving. My issue is you can't bore or hone, so if you scuff a wall for any reason -- which is absolutely bound to happen once people really start pushing parts and tune -- then the block is trash or you have to go all-in and sleeve it. Otherwise a standard .010 to .020 over bore would clean up most melt downs but that is not an option here.

Right on brother! The big "what if" now is @ 1000hp for how long? Good stuff coming for sure.

When I said 1000hp would be done in less than a year....some people laughed. Also, Geo from Real Street is already working on getting the MKV Supra in the 10's within a month.

These PayNearMe ads are really annoying....aren't they? :D
