Youtuber complaining about idling and shutting off issues

I feel as if you want to rev the car the transmission should be in neutral........

I’m guessing putting the transmission in park locks some gears together so the car can’t move like a trans brake for drag cars. Idunno, just venturing a guess

Doesnt seem like reving and switching back and forth between modes helps either.

I don't really like commenting on YouTube, so I'm gonna put it here.

The first issue he mentioned, happened to me as well. Funnily enough, this happened at the dealer when I was taking delivery.
I usually don't do it when engine is cold, but couldn't help myself. Just like he showed, it got stock at around 3000rpm. I didn't read too much into it as I was shutting the car off anyhow. I have not done this since. So, I don't know if it's still taking place..
After not being too impressed with revving, I'm not needlessly revving the car at any point.. Maybe once I get a catback or something that improves things.

2nd issue he's talking about, I don't know.. I get in the car and press sport and off I go. I did however previously mentioned that if I'm using Normal mode and stop-start kicks in, it's an abrupt sudden cut-off. Not smooth stopping like most other stop-start cars..

Most BMW's while in a "cold start" period, don't rev above 3000rpm, this is to protect the engine during the phase of warming the cats up

This is not that. It revs above 3000, but then does not fall down below 3000. it just stays there even after you depress the gas pedal!

This kinda sound like maybe a bug in the software? Look like it’s holding rev as if it’s trying to launch control? Switching between comfort and sport may had trick the ecu to think it trying to go into launch. Just my thought.

It would be interesting to see if the car was seeing some type of input from the DBW (drive by wire) system. If you could get it hooked up to a datalogger you could see if those sensors were displaying anything. Basically see if it was a sensor malfunction and commanding the throttle to open. Just an idea but definitely worth looking into.

Did he take the car to the dealership to have it looked at?

Guff have tested this issue on his rental Supra and made same issue (first issue & not second issue). It's prob software issue that Toyota can update down the road.

Don't know about the first issue (my initial reaction is don't rev your car in park like a goober) but in the second issue, the car didn't stall out, it activated auto start/stop (you can see he was in normal mode). Then when he switched to sport mode (which disables auto start/stop) the engine restarted. That looked completely normal to me. I think if he reads the owner's manual or takes the time to familiarize himself with the engine modes and auto start/stop, the second issue will be considered normal. Well, as normal as it can be for someone who wants to rev the engine and fiddle with modes while the car is in park.

There are other normal behaviors of auto start/stop in park, and side effects when you open a door or walk away with the key that will cause the car to shut off completely (overriding auto start/stop) and that can really confound people. But it makes sense too.

BTW, I may come across as a jerk, but this is one reason I dislike YouTube sometimes. People will take the time to get dramatic and post a video when instead simply reading the owner's manual and/or understanding their car would be quicker. I realize some of the BMW behaviors and some of the auto start/stop behaviors are foreign to fresh Supra owners or people who haven't owned cars with modern emissions gimmicks like auto start/stop, but come on. I never thought I'd see the day when it's easier to film and post a panicked video than to consult the product instructions. I guess we're lucky it's a car and not an airplane....

Nailed it! If the poster of the youtube video is on here, your car is fine. Unless you made the video for clicks and youtube subs....then good on ya I guess heh
