Toyota UK told me they had tested their stock engine up to 700hp but didn't mention anything beyond that.

I can imagine if they could of reliably hit 750 + they would have kept going

I'm not a 2JZ builder and don't claim to be an expert. I've heard most engine builders recommend to get rods/pistons past 700 for the 2JZ-GTE.

Probably do, but you can do up to around 800whp +/- on a 2J for a long time without issue if you don't beat the hell out of it 24/7. I've even had friends around the 900 mark with headstuds, turbo, standalone, and fuel, but it's merely a game of time at that point.

The issue anymore is fast spooling turbos and e85 though. This changes things and can lead to bent rods at 700whp+ according to Larry Prebis at SP etc.

I haven't heard if the engine blew at lower power levels but the current engine was built with stronger forged pistons and rods.
Maybe just preparing it for bigger/higher power levels.

I'm sure it was fine. Imagine if they had pushed it and blown the motor, especially without knowing this engine's weakpoints. It would have looked really bad for them.

Considering the max hp for s54 on stock internals was 879whp, i see no reason why this wouldnt surpass 800 wheel on stock internals, when it is purposely built for turbocharging. Granted, the s54 wouldn't run much after that, but still great record.

I wouldn't go as far as saying "most" but I'm sure there are engine builders that would recommend it. The thing with the 2jz-gte is the age and mileage on most of them now. I wouldn't doubt that a lot of engine builders would recommend getting the internals redone at certain power levels but it's not because of the reliability of the motor associated with the power but rather the reliability of the motor associated with the age/mileage of the engines when pushing more power.

The 2jz-gte short block will handle 1000whp. Now as with anything, the more abuse you put it under the more likely it is to break but it can handle the power and last if one was inclined to take care of it properly.

Now the cams/valvetrain are another story when starting to push past certain power levels if you want a quick spooling and reliable 2jz-gte head.
