How difficult was this to do? Any photos? Was it worth it?
Very simple. I checked bimmer boards and found Z4 owners replacing their horns. There is low note and there is high note. Supra must have got the high “clown car” note only. :dunno:

Did you replace the high note horn with this low note horn, or did you add this horn so that you now have both a high note horn and low note horn?

I just replaced mine with the NAPA/Balkamp FIAMM low note blaster horn.

Part no: 730-1056
Cost: $20.00
DIY labor time: 1.2 hr
How’s it sound? Have a video?

Did you have to cut the factory wiring to re-wire it?

View attachment 17775 View attachment 17776 View attachment 17777 View attachment 17778 View attachment 17779 This is my first post, as I just recently took delivery of my Absolute Zero Supra. I was more than a little embarrassed when I had to use the horn! I spoke to my Toyota dealer about retrofitting a ‘real’ Toyota horn, but they were unwilling / unable to do the minor mods required to attach a dual set of horns. As a new model, no one at the dealer would be comfortable to do the work. I ended up talking to my Lexus dealer, who has serviced my other cars for the last 20+ years. They were willing to do the install of 2 (hi / low note) Lexus horns. They also installed a Lexus (Toyota) dash cam, which I’ll describe in a separate post. As expected, this was not a simple install. The techs had to remove the bumper, headlights, and trim to access the horn. Of course, everything was attached with BMW clips. The horn was located on the driver’s (left side in Canada / US) side. As they replaced a single 1 note horn with 2 separate horns, the tech built a custom wiring harness with Lexus (Toyota) electrical connectors, and extended it to the opposite side (right side) for the second horn. Works great, and sounds like a REAL car now! When I saw the work involved, I’m glad I didn’t attempt it myself. Lots of fine adjustments to put everything back together, including reattaching the parking sensors and headlights.

Weird - I was under the impression that the horn swap was easy - just remove the drivers side wheel and open the compartment in the wheel well where the horn is located? I've talked to a few folks who have done the swap and they said it was 30-45 mins max. job - the hardest part was taking the wheel off to get to the horn location.

The original horn is secured at the top, so don’t know how that could be undone coming up through the wheel well (see pictures), unless the original horn was removed from it’s mounting bracket, and swapped with a new single horn. Or, if the original horn was left in place, a new horn bolted in around the original, and the wiring plug attached to the new horn. In my case, the tech replaced the original, added a wiring harness to power an additional horn on the other side of the car. In hindsight, an easier (and less expensive) option would have been to use a single, dual note BMW horn. Unfortunately, the local BMW dealer wasn’t interested.

I am really embarrassed of the horn myself to the point where I prefer not to use it if not necessary and even when it is .. the horn is really low and not sure if the other driver can even hear it , will definitely consider this mod in the future

Horn location has absolutely nothing to do with the wheel! if you want to mess up the plastic in the wheel well by pulling too hard on it, be my guest. Even so, as the pictures also suggest there is a heat exchanger there, so nope.

I recently took of the front bumper, and you can only access the driver horn by removing the bumper, however it's small opening but you can still operate.
Absolutely no need to remove parking sensors. There is a wiring harness, yes, that's connected to the parking sensors and there are 2 attachments to the body. You just disconnect them. That's it! He probably meant something else, maybe that he had to use another harness to splice for passenger side horn.

Of course, this is first attempt, so the dealer needed to get a better view of surroundings and of course he had to add passenger side, so headlamps needed to come off..

I may do this as well!

Make sure they align the sides of the bumper to align with the fender.

Is the replacement horn plug and play or did you have to splice in a new adapter?
By chance do you have part numbers? (Not sure if horns are universal or if this is a bmw connection)
