Sad, but not surprising. Fiat dealers have been closing all over the place in recent years leaving it up to Dodge/Jeep dealers to sell them and they just don't seem to care.

Styling is exactly the problem. The whole point of a car like this is gorgeous Italian styling with rock solid Japanese engineering. It's a great formula, too bad they fucked it up. The resulting car was not only kind of awkward to look at, it ended up being based on the most gorgeous Miata ever made and didn't hold a candle to it. To make matters worse, then they stuffed an actual tiny Fiat turbo motor under the hood and ruined the promise of Japanese reliability.

I don't think the reliability comments are all that justified on modern Fiats and I would take that Abarth engine over the Miata engine any day. The styling has always been the problem for me. They wanted it to look like the old spider, but most people don't have a real connection to those so it just comes off looking odd. I'd still take one over a Miata if I wanted a roadster, but throw the Miata RF in there and that's my pick.

The 124 in rally spec looks good though.

I am seeing this as bad news in general , even though i dont like the 124. if they indeed kill it , it means one less sporty car is offered so it kind of eliminates some competition form the class, which in my eyes means lesser offerings from other brands.

Probably a bad business decision to roll out something that shares so much with the ND Miata but doesn't perform quite as well and with a higher price tag. The second issue is the affordable roadster market is a segment that has been dominated by Miata and S2000 in the last 10-20 years, and there is a solid fan base for both of those brand and models. If you are a "new" brand trying to penetrate this segment, the car better has some area that exceeds those two benchmarks, but unfortunately, the Spider 124 has none. I had high hopes that the Spider 124 would be equivalent to something like a "MazdaSpeed ND Miata", and I truly believe they should have use that as a target if Fiat wanted to gain traction on it.

and yet it's still one of the go to entry level cars, props to Honda
Prices on good examples with low mileage are climbing. I looked at a nice used one that priced higher than when I bought my 2008 S2K brand new.

My concern is that I hope this does nothing to threaten the continued sale of the current generation (and future) Mazda Miata. They really got it right with this one and I hope it remains a good seller within its market.

Drop dead styling, sport roof, double wishbones in all 4 corners, 6spd manual, no fake vents and 100% made in Japan.... it's short 2 cylinders of being a better Supra then the new Supra.
