Has anyone changed their oil yet? Curious to know what oil you used and how much is needed.

I too would like to know. Iā€™m guessing itā€™s just like any other B58. Filter and all.

I will be doing mine pretty soon as I've put a hard 3,000 miles on it so far. I called Toyota to ask if this would be included in the Toyota Care and they said I would have to wait for 10,000 miles on it. I will not be waiting that long so maybe at 5,000 miles I'll get it done and let you know. I've always used Mobil 1 Synthetic in my vehicles so I'll continue that tradition.

Is no one doing a break in oil change at 1000-1200 miles?
I remember the old days of first at 1000 miles and then every 3k but on these newer vehicles the service manual just says every 10k miles. Since I'm pretty hard on my oil I am doing 5k but at some point you will be wasting money if your oil is not degrading some by the time you change it, it's basically your preference. I tried to get mine done at 1000 and they wouldn't do it so you'd def have to pay for it out of pocket if you wanted to do it. If you're not really pushing it to it's limits I wouldn't worry about it.

I did. I just flushed the old oil and put in new oil. The old oil measured 6.8 liters and there were tons of metal bits in the oil. I changed it at 1000kms. Be very careful with the oil pan screw. The whole thing is made out of aluminum and it's very fragile. Do not over torque or you will strip the threads very easily. I didn't even need the breaker bar to remove the screw. Twisted off very easily.

Did you change the filter as well? I'd be curious to see what it picked up.

No, I left the original filter since it only have 1000kms of use. Flushing the old oil probably got rid of 80% of the metal particles.

I'm surprised at this as I thought there was a break-in oil change required at 1-1.2k miles. My last two M cars required break-in changes so I thought this would follow suit.

Same reason I asked actually.

What oil did you go with?

For my BRZ they told me that Subaru adds additives from the factory in the original oil that helps with the break in process and they don't recommend changing it out sooner. But 10k miles seems like a lot though, especially if you have metal flakes in it like another poster had.

I think if you're driving it hard or you're in salty environments or doing a lot of short trips, then changing it sooner is recommended anyway. But I couldn't see how changing the oil early would hard the engine. At the same time, people don't seem to have any issues by following the service manual (for normal driving). I think oil technology has kept getting better and better.
