Hey folks,

I am located in Australia, where our cars only just got released.

They have been here for 2 months as press/media cars, but when I drove them, they sounded same as the USA videos I have seen.

Mine was the first customer car delivered in Australia, it is a May 2019 build, but the exhaust sounds very quiet and gives out very little noise.

Toyota told us the exhaust tune is supposed to be the same as the USA ones, but it certainly doesn't seem it.

I am wondering whether Australia got screwed or whether all newer ones are this way.

I have made a video, which has a comparison of the exhausts at 9m57s:

I would love to hear from anyone who has insight on this. The local dealers are new to this as well so I don't expect to hear from them on the matter for a while.

Thanks :)

AU cars are the same as EU as far as I'm aware.

@MA617M has one now though iirc, so he might be able to provide more insight.

I dont think we have the GPF in local cars (yet), which I understand EU cars do have?

Do the Euro cars do away with the crackles and so forth?

One thing I noticed that the exhaust valves on the RHS tip seem to be always open aside from cold start it is closed.

I found that strange as I had expected it would open and close on the sport setting.

That's a good point, as they may not have the GPF, but I meant as far as decibels emitted by exhaust.

I think the media/press cars were the US spec exhaust. I feel a little cheated after getting to drive the press car last week, only to get mine and have it far quieter :|

Very possible if LHD (the original cars we sent to AU and JP were LHD US market cars). If it was RHD, it may have been a JP market car which are the same as US cars (at least I don't remember them being quieter).

I have noticed on mine (UK spec) that the valve on the right exhaust exit is open when the car is off.

When I start it, it stays open for a few seconds (usually get a pop on start) and then closes and the car gets quieter.

It does not really pop in comfort mode, however in sports you should be able to rev it to 4000 then let off and get pop's every time.

The EU spec is definitely quieter, not sure if its down to the extra filters or EU noise laws.

I drove it yesterday Mark and it was my complaint too. Only audible difference between sport and non-sport mode is the addition of crackles that are somewhat subtle compared to US.

I need to confirm which exhaust centre section we got - the US is one variant and EU is another,

Either way mine is getting secondary cat and resonators deleted ASAP and an intake. They really are far too quiet.

Mine is a 29/4/2019 - 5/5/2019 build

There are definitely crackles in that video.

I think they're more audible or pronounced when the engine and pipes are hotter.

Try driving it harder for a time and you'll almost certainly hear it clearly at the end of that sort of 'spirited' driving.

I can confirm the Au model has the same middle muffler as the US version - item 2 as seen below:

I am having trouble getting the video to play, but one thing to keep in mind:

When starting the vehicle cold, even if in sport mode, you won’t get much for crackles (even when reving it). Which is the opposite of most other cars that give some of their best noise on a cold start-up.

I am guessing it is part of BMW cold-start program, that, I believe, is set to warm up the cats, cause less pollution or something like that...

Anyway, with most tunes you can delete it out all together.

If you won’t be tuning, try letting the car idle until the rpms come into the normal range (I would guess 750ish or so), you will hear a very distinct audible change in the exhaust note. After it has calmed down, then try giving it some revs.

(Maybe in your vid the car is fully warmed up and my post does not apply, regardless the sound is amplified with a warm engine).

Unsure why it wouldnt play, but if you jump onto youtube it is: (video ID JZKdf2lMaGU or search for "We buy the first GR Supra in the country & test it! Aus exhaust issue, Dyno & 0-100kph")

We have done 200km+ of driving and it is quiet the whole time.

The car starts with the valve closed but opens shortly after cold start.

It's very quiet in all modes and settings, and it seems to be the same for all the production release cars, but the media and press cars, and pre production Australian cars were loud like the USA ones.

I can only guess they tuned out the crackles on decel for the Australian market :(

I noticed we don't have the exhaust particulate filter either.

Was the actual volume of the cars at the press louder, or just the crackles?

I've already bought the stainless to delete the centre cat :p
