The A90 received some H&R Springs and some Cusco braces over the weekend. I am hopeful that the slightly lower ride height will allow for additional negative camber adjustment (even if it is slight). Keen to see for myself whether the H&R springs (while making the car look much better), will help or hurt performance on track/lap times. Regardless, the H&R springs are a temporary setup until we decide on a damper

The initial drop was about 1" front and rear with no settle period yet. The photo below gives a decent comparison between the factory springs vs H&R lowering springs.

what tyre size are you running? that looks fantastic.

FWIW, Rays TE37 Ultra M-Spec are in A90 sizing already - on their website.

Keen to hear what square set up you run - I run 18x10" 275/35 all round on my A80 and love the balance.

Toyo R888R 265/35R19 F 285/30R19 R

18x10 square would be ideal. The decision comes down between Advan GTs or TE37s. ;)

Is the camber adjustments pretty limited on these cars?

Alignment #2 after the H&R spring install. The drop in ride height allowed for -2.2 to -2.3 front camber in comparison to the original -1.8 from factory. This should definitely help overall grip, and tire wear as the tire was previously rolling excessively over the sidewall. Toed the front out for a bit sharper turn in, and pulled some toe out of the rear. Front camber was set at it's max (no adjustment in stock form without camber plates), and rear camber was set about -0.2 higher than fronts. This setup theoretically should work well for the tight(ish), technical sections at Streets of Willow Springs.

2020 Toyota Supra Track Day 2

Streets of Willow Springs - Fastest lap time: 1:25.36
(Reference time: 1:22.43 in my S2K naturally aspirated with aero)

Modifications:
H&R Lowering Springs
Toyo Proxes R888R 265/35R19 & 295/30R19
(Stock engine and brakes)

Streets of Willow is a fairly tight and technical track requiring finesse and smooth applications all around (steering, throttle, brake) to tie together a decently fast lap time. There are a few high speed sections and transitions that will definitely test your courage. The Supra seemed to be a perfect fit for the track as it shares the sharp steering qualities similar to a S2000 (well not quite, keyword similar) and a healthy amount of power even in stock form. We didn't have time to upgrade the pads from stock, but we did install a set of H&R lowering springs as I was general curious as to whether or not lowering springs would actually provide a noticeable improvement in roll, especially in mid to high speed sweeping corners. To my surprise, the H&Rs did a fantastic job both on track and on the public streets/highways.

On Track Performance:

A few noticeable improvements the springs gave us were:
1. Lower ride height (very important)
2. More camber. Fronts were able to achieve -2.2 to -2.3 deg camber (matched rears), which translated in improved turn in/mid corner grip, as well as better tire wear (as the tire was not rolling over the sidewall nearly as much as it did with -1.8 deg camber).
3. A notable decrease in body roll. The stock suspension caused the Supra to roll more than ideally, giving a slight "floaty" feeling in high speed sweepers and transitions. While the overall car was still planted thanks to its' great chassis, the softness was definitely not what you'd call confidence inspiring in certain sectors of the track.

Streetability/Comfort

I drove the car to and from the track approximately 120 miles each way and can honestly say that the springs did not add much, if any, harshness or discomfort on the road. In comfort mode, both the H&R and factory springs felt nearly identical in my opinion, whereas. Lowering springs are definitely not the end all solution if you are looking to maximize lap times. However for the daily driver or average weekend track day goer who still uses their Supra as a daily driver and wants to maintain the electronic suspension options, the H&R's won't disappoint. The next step for our Supra will be KW V3 (or Clubsport) coilovers with the Electronic Suspension Cancellation kit in a few weeks to come.

Before leaving this on a note of spring "praise" lol, it is very fair to mention that upgrading the stock brake pads should be at the top of the list when going about track preparation. Brake fade is apparent after a few laps, and progressively worsens as it gets hotter (Especially on the second track day, even with Motul RBF600 fluid). The next pad upgrade will likely be the CSG C2 (Race) pads.

A total of four MKV Supras showed up to Streets of Willow, and I'd have to say I was pleasantly surprised to see a handful of other Supra owners pushing their cars at the track this early into ownership! We spent the morning and early afternoon lapping and hooning with our buddy Jerel and his brother, Kevin, who joined us in their Renaissance Red LE MKV.

It was definitely interesting to see a close comparison between one MKV on springs and one on stock suspension, both in the same corner. Ours (with springs installed) and Jerel's Supra (factory springs). The decrease in pitch and roll from the springs along make me that much more optimistic about the results to come from a proper coilover and race alignment.

Jerel and Kevin, founders of Feend Media, were kind enough to provide these beautiful on and off track photos of the Supra.

Thanks for sharing your first hand experience with the H&R springs and Toyo R888R tires. The video showed your drifting skills. All i can say is that you could be a true pro-drifter.
Can't wait to see your results and feedback once you get the KW coilovers installed. Drive it safely.

Great write up and feedback! How much toe in/out do you plan on running once you get an adjustable setup? I typically ran 1-2 mm OUT up front and 1-4 mm IN on the rear with a RX8, S2K and a MX5. Currently running a square setup. This car is new to me as well. Would love to hear your thoughts 😃
