Not really, headlamp shapes similar but front end treatment was slightly different, not much but slightly. Opening to radiator on both sides was more 90 degree to top and bottom on edges vs slightly angledDid it look like this?
That looks pretty clean for a modern car... No conflicting body lines. I truly think the current 86/BRZ design will age well. I really hope the new one looks like this. If a larger engine is in the picture, it might make for a fun swap on the current gen (much like the 2.5 block swap on the NC Miata). Fingers crossed!!Did it look like this?
No idea....my suspicion is US market will only be offered 1 engine but I have no knowledge either wayDo you think the New GT 86 will come only in the 2.4l engine?
Doesn't make sense if it does, though. Some markets still need get the 2l engine due to tax brackets.
Not at the moment, thereās only the 190kw/258ps which is used in the Supra SZ-R in Japan. Maybe in the next 1-2 years an updated B48 will appear. Not really, headlamp shapes similar but front end treatment was slightly different, not much but slightly. Also I was just told that 4cyl turbo engine for Supra will have more than 255HP and less than 300hp. I was told it will fall into the range I was told originally of 260-280. Iām not familiar with BMW engines.....any BMW 4cyl turbos that produce around 275hp?
How about this one?Not really, headlamp shapes similar but front end treatment was slightly different, not much but slightly. Opening to radiator on both sides was more 90 degree to top and bottom on edges vs slightly angled
This one is even less like next one
does the bottom part change? Not really, headlamp shapes similar but front end treatment was slightly different, not much but slightly. Opening to radiator on both sides was more 90 degree to top and bottom on edges vs slightly angled
Chief engineer says customers are expecting the next 86 to surpass the Supra.
It took Toyota about 17 years and BMW as a partner to come out with a new Supra, but as the saying goes, better late than never. The Japanese marque is also taking its sweet time engineering a next-generation 86 considering the current car co-developed with Subaru has been around for more than seven years. A new one is definitely coming eventually, and it looks like itāll be well worth the wait based on a recent statement made by chief engineer Tetsuya Tada.
Speaking with Australian magazine WhichCar, the Toyota representative revealed there's a ānew 86 teamā and the goal is to make the second generation of the rear-wheel-drive coupe better to drive than the new Supra. Interestingly, Tada says customers are actually expecting the 86 to be more thrilling than the A90, therefore Toyota wants to create āa new 86 that surpasses the Supra.ā

Next-Gen Toyota 86, Subaru BRZ May Use Toyota Platform
Toyota has updated the current-gen 86 repeatedly thorough special versions like the Hakone and the TRD Handling Package, but fans of the nimble coupe are eager to see what the company is preparing for its successor. Tada refused to go into any details about the car, although latest intel from Japan suggests the new 86 along with its BRZ sibling could make the switch from the current 2.0-liter engine to a larger 2.4-liter unit sourced from the Subaru Ascent.
If thatās the case, the jury is still out whether it will be naturally aspirated or turbocharged, with the former version rumored to boast 230 hp while the latter with forced induction could make 260 hp like in the SUV. Regardless of the scenario, a healthy power boost over the much-criticized 205 hp of the current Toyobaru will be more than welcome.
Thereās also the matter of platforms, with the current 86 riding on a modified Subaru Impreza architecture. That could change for the next gen as thereās a report indicating the car will migrate to Toyotaās TNGA platform since Subaruās latest Global Platform (SGP) canāt allegedly be modified to create a rear-wheel-drive car. Interestingly, some are saying the 86 and its BRZ twin could transition to Mazdaās new rear-wheel-drive platform, which would be truly interesting.
Beyond the new GR Supra and a next-gen 86, Toyota is also planning a smaller (but not cheaper) sports car while working on the GR Super Sport hypercar with nearly 1,000 horsepower.

Hmmmm
The development name of the next model is ā860Bā, and development is underway with the aim of debuting in the first half of 2021. Like the current 86 / BRZ, Toyota and Subaru will jointly develop, and Subaru will have the same development initiative.
The FR platform uses the current 86 / BRZ carry-over. It's a common practice in sports cars to use a platform that has been matured many times. In other words, the suspension format will not change.
The basic structure of FR, which is a vertically-oriented Subaru horizontally opposed engine, remains unchanged, and the transmission configuration is the same as Aisin AW 6MT and Aisin AI 6AT.
However, the engine will be changed from the current 2L, horizontally opposed 4-cylinder direct injection (FA20) to 2.4L, horizontally opposed 4-cylinder direct injection (FA24).
The 2.4L engine scheduled to be installed in the 86 / BRZ is the NA version of the 2.4L, horizontally opposed 4-cylinder direct injection turbo (264ps / 38.3kgm) already installed in Subaru Ascent, which has already been released in North America. The spec is 220ps / It seems to settle down to about 24.5kgm.
For the FA24 engine, Toyota's direct injection technology D-4S will be adopted in the same way as the FA20 installed in the current 86 / BRZ. There is an urgent need to improve the environmental performance and fuel efficiency, which are the crying places of the current model.
The expected body size of the new model is 4250 length x width 1780 x height 1315mm. The current model is 4240 long x 1775 wide x 1320mm high, so it is almost unchanged. The wheelbase is the same at 2570mm.
