How was installation? Did you have to take out any interior paneling other than the cover to thread the wires through?

I had a shop do it, but I imagine so. He had mentioned that things were put together quite tightly, although he stated he didn’t have any specific issues with the install.

I know he removed the passenger front outside footwell plastic cover, that is were the remote control for the radar detector is. Not that I will use it, but that is where it ended up on it’s journey to the back of the car to get hardwired.

I guess I shouldn’t have taken the installers opinion that the blendmount could not be adjusted any higher.

Took a closer look at it and there was a joint near the mounting point that was able to be adjusted. I was able to move that piece so it was parallel to the dash and move the detector higher.

Would be nice if it would go even higher still, but this is where it is at....

Recently got a blendmount after seeing pictures of the clearance. Also got a escort m1 dash camera attached to the radar. Bit of a fail, took my old r3 from my other car but the charging port is on the opposite side. Maybe it's time to upgrade to a r7...

Have parts for hardwiring to mirror when Toyota gets wiring diagrams

Don’t worry, it took me 3 different blendmounts in order to find the correct one....I feel your pain.

I didn’t own a detector before the the R7, so I have nothing to compare it to. However, it’s range is awesome. It alerts you well before a cop could see you/aim, etc...

They still haven’t updated the firmware to offer GPS auto-lockouts, however, I am told that is coming to the R7. Due to internal memory issues, it won’t be available on the R3. Once that is released, then the r7 looks like a great upgrade.

Or just upgrade for the heck of it.

Thanks for the pic. I'm going to get my DR-900S installed tomorrow as well as hard wiring my R7. I picked up a Radenso visor clip which I modified to fit my RD... I'm still on the fence regarding whether to mount the RD on the visor... or do a Blendmount.

It sure looks like the Blendmount is fairly obstructive to your view. Plus being smack dab in the center of the windshield seems like it would be an invitation for heat soak... and possibly unwanted attention. If you get pulled over there is no easy way to quickly disconnect it either... which means if the cop is having a bad day and sees the RD... you will likely get a ticket (at least around here.)

I agree it looks obstructive, however, after the install I have truly never noticed it.

I would have been open to a visor mount if there was one readily available. It would also make it easier to change settings (mute, gps memory, etc...).

Regarding getting a ticket....

Well, I had time to think about that this weekend...

I concluded, without double checking my hypothesis, that based on the low arch of the window line and the overall low level of the car, that even when mounted on the mirror, it may not be as easy to see as one would think.

Of course, if the cop is eyeing up the interior of the car, getting in close to smell for intoxicants, or does a passenger-side approach, they will likely see it, however, they may see it in those instances on the sun visor as well.

Safest area to mount it would be the far left side of the sun visor. I would think, unless the cop did a passenger-side approach, due to the shape of the car, it would be pretty well covered.

Btw, I got a ticket for no front plate. I was a cop for 6yrs and unless you were a woman-beating, drug dealing, sexual predator I didn’t give anyone a ticket for no front plate...but I guess in small towns they aren’t as lenient.

My R7 did a great job alerting me of the officers presence.

Have a favor to ask of those that have their MKV's already (mine won't be here until December/January). What is the measurement from the ground up to the bottom of the nose? I am planning my laser jammer install and the AL Priority TX head has to be mounted at least 22" above the ground (something to do with a vertical firing diode causing interference). It specifically states on their website that the TX emitter cannot be used on Lambo's or other "low slung" sports cars. The TX head is useful for areas that use the Dragon Eye laser. My plan was to mount the TX emitter in the center of the MKV (below the nose) and then two RX heads on either side of it. It looks like the MKV would have the perfect placement side to side due to the three front grill spaces but then this height issue came up.
Appreciate the help!

As to your AL Priority jammer question, I bought 3 standard heads (non-TX) due to the front of the Supra being only about 16 inches high in the center (the sides under the headlights look to be only about 13 inches high maximum, maybe less). The honeycomb grills almost fit the jammer heads. Might be able to heat gun the grill area a bit and squeeze the heads in, then glue or 3M tape, not sure yet. Of course need to make sure they are level and straight ahead. Trying to figure out how to easily get through the firewall to run the cables inside, under the dash area. Have to also look around for a good power tap. You can always call Tom at AL Priority with your questions.

Thanks sbodnar for taking the time to measure and answer my question. It looks like I'll be ordering the non-TX heads also.
I found the video below that shows how to access a hole in the firewall, I've seen a better video from one of the guys installing a piggyback tune but the video below shows how to do it also. I'm still researching where to get the power though.

Thanks again.

Have any of youse guys made any headway with your install on these? Would love to see some pics! This looks like a tough install on our grills. Due to my local, I'm leaning toward Stinger...

Not yet. My car is getting the clear film applied right now. When I get it back this week, I will attempt the AL install. I found the firewall hole, and the area under the dash install should be pretty straight forward. The center sensor install should be not too bad, but the 2 outer ones will be much harder.

I finished the ALP install. The inside electrical was actually easier than I thought it would be. Installed the controller on driver’s side fender wall and ran the sensor wires to the engine area through that little hole. Had to run the power and ground to the passenger side and use that fuse panel. There is a good metal ground there also. Running the sensor wires to the front was very painful. Took the driver side latch cover off, but needed a clothes hanger wire to navigate down to the front grill area. Once the sensor wires were in the front, just pulled them to the sensors. I used the sensor mounts with some adhesive. Oh, I mounted the control button next to the shifter. The center padded right leg panel simply pops off, and I ran the wire through there.

I used the red connector. Brown wire for ground and the opposite end red pinkish wire for power. It's always on so I just set my radar to auto off(battery saver on) so it turns off on it's own after no movement for a period of time.
