B48 4 cylinder Supra will come to US?

Would you be interested in a 255hp B48 Supra for $40k-$45k?

Exactly, why didn't Toyota just keep the 335hp B58 as the base model for like $45k? Do you think the 4 cylinder was pushed on the US by HQ in Japan?
Keeping the B58 335 unit won't get the pricing down to the $40-45K range as it stands now, and I guess the opposite reason is that both B58 versions aren't big difference to cost of production. I don't think they think they will sell a lot of 4T models but they have a big price gap that must be addressed if you want market share.

It will sell. First Toyota gets them on the streets and gets some exposure with the 6 cyl. More people want them and can justify 40K over 55 and thus the base model 4 cylinder is born..not everyone wants it for the speed. That's when you start to get the regular car buyers that just want a cool looking Toyota.

That's when you get every middle aged woman ever.

When I'm in then US, I see tons of women driving Toyota 86, Miatas, 370Z, and 4cyl/v6 mustangs lol.

Nissan s13 and 14 were also very popular with women, specifically the 14 iirc.

Especially with a tune, a lot of people will be more than happy with a 300-325whp car thatā€™s fun to drive around. Although I donā€™t think I would buy one, I can see why someone would.

Maybe not as it currently sits, but how about offering one with less options. Something a long the lines of the 95 SE Supra? I'm pretty old school, just give me a radio, AC, power seats and mirrors and a MT and I'm good. Yeah I don't see too many people lining up for a 4 banger Supra. Maybe the following: Honda fanboys, women, tree tree huggers, or all the above.

Edited: I'm not anti-B48, but maybe Toyota should have called it something else? Like with the Firebird & Trans AM. I would be ok with Celica-Supra or something along those lines.

The base 3.0 is $50k. It will sell, but it probably won't be anywhere near as high as the I6 model if history repeats itself. Heck, even the I6s were the first ones to sell out in Japan.

This is accurate and I think been confirmed already elsewhere on here but if not....yes again
Yes it has been talked about to death lol.

I couldn't agree with you more (except I don't even need radio) yet manufactures' could care less because for every 1 of us that want the most stripped, lightweight sports car we can get, 200 customers exist that must have 1000 lb standard flux capacitors installed powering eye brow cooling devices and puffy bags for when you must brake aggressive so your fingernails don't get scuffed up???? I get that safety standards and technology weigh more but the Supra could be a home run with nothing other than the absolute bare minimum required safety items to satisfy the feds, lightweight manual sport bucket seats, minimum sound deadening, manual trans, obviously back up camera has to stay (with always on button for track days) and for the love of god some sort of lighter weight material for interior besides 400 lb leather everything. Get the thing down to 2900-3100 lbs max and let me drive it to and from the track being street legal and under $45k msrp and you have home run.

I had a feeling that Toyota was going to bring the 4 cyl to the US. However, it wasn't expecting it would be this earlier. I was thinking around the mid life-cycle refresh (2024?) to boost/maintain sales. I was also hoping for more power. A freaking riced out $36k Civic is making 306hp for for goodness sake.

Also I was just told that 4cyl turbo engine for Supra will have more than 255HP and less than 300hp. I was told it will fall into the range I was told originally of 260-280. Iā€™m not familiar with BMW engines.....any BMW 4cyl turbos that produce around 275hp?

I don't believe so, but I imagine it wouldn't be too hard for Toyota to do their own tune.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone here driven the 4 cylinder Supra? If so, how was it like?

Extremely unlikely...more likely that BMW is planning on bumping HP on 255hp unit

It feels a bit more agile in quick corner to corner driving where the weight is shifting back and forth and on turn in, but otherwise feels very similar as one might expect.

And while it's not gutless by any means it does feel like it could use more power. The car is still over 3k lbs with only 260hp...

If it was 35k and available manual, it would be such a great contender vs the I6 car. The manual and price being very important. You'd basically have what I want, a mod friendly modern S15 spec R (probably a little lighter too being manual).
